Shells, my favorite apple crisp comes from a Betty Crocker Cookbook from the 70's.

Apple Crisp
 
4     cups          sliced tart apples — (about 4 medium)
2/3  to 3/4 cup    packed brown sugar
1/2  cup           all-purpose flour

1/2 cup quick-cooking or old fashioned oats

1/3  cup           butter — softened
3/4  tsp           ground cinnamon
3/4  tsp           ground nutmeg

Heat oven to 375.  Arrange apples in greased square 8×8×2 pan.  Mix remaining
ingredients; sprinkle over apples.  Bake untl topping is golden brown and
apples are tender, about 30 minutes.  

Sometimes,I live in my own little world, but it's okay because they know me here.

MMMM .. thank you so much.  Do you think I need to use extra sugar if I am using Granny Smith apples?

Use 3/4 cup of brown sugar and make sure you pack it! I usually double the recipe and granny smith is my favorite to use….love that sweet tart flavor! I've used this recipe and sub fresh peaches and used the smaller amount of brown sugar and it was really tasty!
