As Addictive as Marlboros without the morning choking spell –

Candy Crackers (called Candy Crack by my unprincipled friends – not to be confused with Chocolate Crack)

1 stick butter, unsalted

1 tsp vanilla

1/2 c. sugar

saltine type crackers (about 40 or 1 sleeve) (I wonder how oyster crackers would do?)

12 oz. semisweet chocolate chips (or butterscotch chips)

1/2 c. (or more) chopped walnuts or pecans or whatever you like (pistachios are the bomb-diggety!)

Preheat oven to 350F.

Line a 13×9 jellyroll pan with foil and then butter or oil the foil.  Cover with saltine type crackers.   Melt butter, sugar and vanilla in a small sauce pan, then pour over crackers of your choice.  Place pan in preheated oven for 8 minutes.  Remove from oven, sprinkle chocolate (butterscotch) chips over hot cracker mess and wait until the chips melt.  Spread melted chocolate (butterscotch) gently over the cracker mixture with a dinner knife until every least corner is covered.  Sprinkle chopped nuts over it all and let cool thoroughly.  Break cooled cookie/candy into pieces and peel off foil, or vice versa – whichever way makes more sense to you.

Edible, adj.: Good to eat, and wholesome to digest, as a worm to a toad, a toad to a snake, a snake to a pig, a pig to a man, and a man to a worm. ~Ambrose Bierce

I do this but with an equal amount of sugar (like the cast iron pan candy–and you can use either white sugar or brown sugar).  It's great!  Making it with mint chocolate chips is my favorite!  I've also done it with white chocolate chips and the butterscotch chips.

Clover made me do it.

That is the cast iron pan candy recipe!  1 stick butter = 1/2 cup…….with 1/2 cup sugar…..equal amounts…….
