This recipe is one my mom cut out from the newspaper almost 50 years ago.  It has become our family's traditional cake for special occasions.

                                             Chocolate Sour Cream Cake

1 cup boiling water

*2 sq unsweetened chocolate

(Combine the above and let cool)

Cream together:

1/2c soft butter

1 t vanilla

1 3/4 c brown sugar

2 eggs

In a separate bowl combine:

1 3/4 c + 2 T flour

1 t baking soda

1/4 t salt

Combine the cooled chocolate mixture with

1/2 c Sour Cream

Add in the creamed ingredients and the flour mixture.

Mix well

Pour into a greased loaf pan, lined with waxed paper

Bake at *325 for 1 hour and 15 minutes

Let cool for 10 minutes, then turn out onto wire wrack and remove the waxed paper

Frost with chocolate butter cream frosting

————

*  I sometimes make the equivalant of this with Herseys Special Dark Choc poweder + a little crisco or lard…

It is a very rich, dense almost wet cake!  So moist!

WOW!!!  The does indeed sound heavenly.  (Pete assumes a contemplative Kreskin-like stance, eyes closed and pictures a chocolate cake in the near future.)

Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!!

Well, I WAS going to make this as a birthday cake next week, but he just told me that what he really wants is a custard pie instead!  Go figure…

That's what I plan to do!  Then, since it's a "just because" event, I won't have to share it with too many folks… Laugh
