Christmas Morning Rolls

This is a popular recipe.  I'm posting it just in case someone doesn't have it.  (Also called Monkey Bread…)  This is another "must have" on Christmas morning…

Christmas Morning Rolls

1 package frozen roll dough  (about 25 rolls)

1 package (4 serving size) butterscotch pudding mix  (NOT instant!)

1/2 cup light brown sugar

1/2 cup chopped pecans

1 stick melted butter

Butter a bundt pan.  Separate frozen roll dough into pieces.  Combine dry pudding mix with brown sugar and pecans.  Melt butter.  Place pieces of roll dough in bundt pan.  Pour melted butter over rolls and sprinkle with pudding mixture.  (I sort of mix it around the rolls.)  Leave pan out overnight – covered with a towel.  (If the rolls don't look "risen enough" they will rise just fine when baked.)   Bake at 350 for around 30 minutes.  (You may have to cover it with foil so it doesn't brown too much – and you may want to put foil under the pan in the oven for easy clean up.)  Invert on large serving plate.

This is different than my monkey bread recipe, but I've used this recipe for years.   A friend made it for us when my mom died.  It was our favorite of the "funeral food".  She gave me the recipe when I told her I loved it.

OMG!!  This was delicious!!  I didn't have frozen rolls, so I just used a loaf of grandmother bread dough and cut into pieces.  also i used vanilla pudding as DB doesn't like butterscotch.  it was loved by everyone!!  I just plugged it and the Chickens on my blog!!  Awesome recipe, Bee!

Glad you liked it Cindy!  Try the butterscotch sometime – we don't like butterscotch either – it gives it more of a caramel flavoring.

Cindy, we didn't know it was butterscotch until we got the recipe.  We thought they were caramel rolls!

OK.  Dumb question time here.  Haven't made this in many, many years. Seems like we used the frozen cinnamon rolls, cut into about 4 pieces.  Are you guys using dinner rolls?  Are they full sized?

And, yes, the vanilla pudding is good.  The butterscotch is better.  Much more carmelier…

Does anyone else do a Monkey/Gorilla Bread using just about the same ingredients, without the pudding mix, using cut up canned biscuits?  It sounds vile, but is yummy.

I make monkey bread quite often using the canned biscuits.  I just cut them in fourths, roll them in butter, roll them in cinnamon sugar, throw them in the bread pan and bake.

I am a short cut queen if there is one.  Granted homemade is better, but I'm a busy woman.

You can use frozen bread dough, frozen dinner rolls (they come in bags) or you can use fresh dough – just allow for a different rising time…same if you use frozen bread dough, because you'll need to thaw it first.

I use the frozen dinner rolls that come in bags – and they are frozen when I leave them overnight.  They've "thawed" and have risen by morning.

…and I have used the biscuits in recipes – I have a good one for biscuits that uses oranges…

Oranges?  Oooooh.  That sounds very yum!

Back in the 50's there was a thing going around using canned biscuits, dipping them in melted OJ concentrate, then baking as usual.  Mom did this for "special" afternoon teas and such.  (That would be play teas, and coffee clatches with the neighbors.)  This was right up there with using Jello for everything and all those other processed food things they were doing back then.

I actually did the OJ & biscuit thing recently.  Mom loved it!  What would it take for that biscuit and oranges recipe?  Please, please?   Hug  Happy Butterfly

Bee, If they are frozen do you let it thaw in the fridge over night or on the counter?

Leave it on the counter, covered with a towel.

I tried that once in a fairly warm kitchen, and they were REALLY thawed in the morning!  Now the kitchen is cool enough to get by with it.  Heart

This just sounds…. Oddly wonderful.

If tomatoes are a fruit, then isn’t ketchup technically a

smoothie?
