OfflineUnlike rolled oats oatmeal, this reheats well in the microwave, so it’s a good make-ahead breakfast. I like to serve it with sweetened yogurt.
Yields about 12 half-cup servings
3 cups steel cut oats
8 1/2 cups water
1/2 cup sweetener of your choice (sugar, brown sugar, molasses, Splenda)
2 one-pound bags frozen unsweetened dark sweet cherries **
1/4 tsp salt
Cinnamon to taste (I use about 2 teaspoons), or you can use pumpkin pie spice or apple pie spice
Combine all ingredients in a crockpot, cook on high 4 hours.
**Can also substitute frozen peaches for cherries to make peach cobbler flavored
