This is a recipe I LOVE LOVE LOVE. It was VERY popular around here, about 15 years ago. LOL I can tell you a short cut too…I just buy pudding at the grocery store – already made up – you know, that Jello pudding in the cups – the flavors I prefer and it saves time, just spreading those on, instead of cooking pudding, or even mixing some up.
Four Layer Delight
Layer 1: In 9×13 (but I even use 9×9), melt 1 stick of margarine. Stir in:
1 cup flour 1 cup chopped pecans, finely chopped
Press in bottom of pan and bake for 15 minutes at 350 degrees. Cool
Layer 2: Cream 1 pkg. (8 oz.) cream cheese. Add: 1 cup powdered sugar and 1 cup Cool Whip (get a tub of LARGE Cool Whip). Spread mixture on top of crust.
Layer 3: Use cooked or instant pudding. (This is where I just use my storebought pudding cups, to save this entire process of steps, if I am in a hurry – I just spread them in layers over Layer 2). Mix 1 pkg. vanilla and 1 pkg. chocolate pudding with 3 cups milk. (If cooked pudding, allow to cool). Spread on top of second layer. (I usually do the storebought in these flavors: chocolate layer, then vanilla layer, caramel layer..whatever you like).
Layer 4: Spread remaining Cool Whip on top. Then I grate a Hershey bar over it, for decoration.

I make a very similar recipe called Chocolate Lush. It always goes over big. I think this will be my dessert tonight!

I have loved this recipe since I was a kid! They used to serve it in our elementary cafeteria. One of my favorites.

Wow! I've never met anyone who knows this recipe before – at our home it's called Striped Delight though, and instead of flour and pecans we substitute graham cracker crumbs as the bottom layer (and just put little chocolate chips on top – we're too lazy to grate!). It's possibly my favorite dessert ever.

I find for that recipe, I do better with the 9x9 pan…9x13 is too hard for me to get that crust evenly spread.

My mom always made this with just chocolate pudding, but I like to make it with banana flavored pudding. I use strawberry flavored cream cheese in the 2nd layer and strawberry flavored Cool Whip for the top if I can find it. It's also good with butterscotch flavored pudding.

My husband would definitely like the strawberry version but I'm still a chocolate fan!
