This is a simple recipe and sooo good. I usually double it since everyone likes it so much.
Fresh Orange Cookies
2 c. sugar
1/2 c. shortening or butter
2 eggs
4 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. milk
juice and rind of one orange – grated
Cream together sugar, shortening, and eggs. Stir in juice and rind of one orange. Mix dry ingredients together and add alternately with milk. Chill dough for 2 hours. Drop by spoonfuls on greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for about 10 minutes.
Frosting
4 Tbsp. milk
1 orange – juice and rind – grated
1/8 tsp. salt
2 c. powdered sugar
Mix ingredients together and frost cookies.
If you don't have fresh oranges, you can use about 1/3 c. of orange juice and a drop or two of orange extract. It's better with the fresh oranges, though. One of these days I'm going to try this with lemons instead of oranges. Bet that will be good, too.

Oh, my. Hadn't thought about these in YEARS! No one in my family made them, but either a neighbor or someone at the church used to make them because I remember them as a child. And they were GOOD!!
Are these soft? That's what I remember. Not exactly a shortbread cookie, but with leanings in that direction. But soft. Melt in your mouth…

Yes, these are soft and just melt in your mouth. I don't always ice them, either. They're good either way. And I usually drop by tablespoonsful, too. My son likes hand-sized cookies. A guy thing.

YIKES!!!! When I mixed these up this evening, something was wrong. I was at the point where I had added half the milk and half the dry ingredients and I realized it was too thin. I had written 1 cup of milk when it should have been 1/2 cup of milk. Cindy, Cindy, can you fix this for me?? And if anybody has made them already, I sincerely apologize. I need to proofread better before I post.

I changed the 1 cup to 1/2 cup milk.

If tomatoes are a fruit, then isn’t ketchup technically a
smoothie?
