This is a recipe that our housekeeper in Germany would make for us and my family LOVED it, esp. my brother and I. My brother prefers dark chocolate and I prefer milk, so take your pick. She used milk chocolate.

                                                 Hannah's Chocolate Nut Cake

1 cup sugar

1/2 pound butter

5 eggs

1 and 2/3 cup ground Hazelnuts (some of you say Filberts)

2 (100 gram) chocolate bars, grated

1 tsp. vanilla

1 teaspoon Baking Powder

1/2 cup milk

2 cups flour

Cream sugar, butter, eggs. Combine flour and baking powder; add to butter mixture. Combine milk and vanilla – add to batter. Stir in nuts and chocolate.

 Pour batter into a greased and floured Bundt or angelfood cake pan. (She used Bundt). Bake 350 for one hour.

 Note:   I would find pieces of large chunk chocolate in my slice…so I think she grated AND had some chunks in it. But, we LOVED this cake. (Some people get thier Hazelnuts shipped in from Oregon). Hannah was older – she had grandchildren, so I am sure this recipe had to be around for some time – if anything, I KNOW it is at least 38-40 years old!!!!
