I keep this on hand all of the time… it makes the best biscuits and pancakes…it tastes just like the store bought variety and you KNOW where it was made.  Very easy.

12 cups flour

1/4 cup baking powder

2 TBSP salt

1 lb lard  (you can use vegetable shortening, if you prefer)

mix together the flour, baking powder and salt in a large bowl.  Add lard and blend together with a pastry blender, two kinves or your fingertips, until mixture is the same texture as coarse cornmeal.  Store in tupperware type container in a dry cool place.

When you need some biscuits… add 2 1/2 cups bisquick mix and 2/3 cup milk… mix and prepare just like you would any other biscuit recipe… bake in 425 for 15 minutes or so until golden brown. 

for pancakes, just add one egg and enough milk to batter consistency. 

This is just so quick and handy.  I use the scraps from my dough to make dog treats…just roll the dough like "playdough cigars" and cut in one inch pieces… bake them at the same time as the biscuits..it gives your dog a treat they love and no waste.  I sometimes brush them with peanut butter or some leftover broth or gravy… before i bake them.  I put them in the dog treat cookie jar…they last a long time because they are dry.  I do this with my pie crust scraps as well.
