I know half and half is best Yes….but I like powdered coffee creamer in my coffee. It seems to be getting more and more expensive. Does anyone have a recipe for making it yourself?

Great question!

Have you ever tried powdered milk?  I haven't, but may now…

I've used powdered milk.  It'll do if there's nothing else, but is missing something—probably sugar, which I don't use.

Well, I googled………….  the only one I could find http://www.thriftyfun.com/tf23…..3.tip.html

  • 1/2 cup uncooked white rice
  • 1/2 cup powderd milk
  • 1/4 cup sugar

Directions:  Put the rice in a blender for 5 minutes on highest setting to form a powder. Add the milk and sugar and again blend for only a few minutes.

I had some concerns using sugar as I do not like sugar in my coffee but I was surprised to find that I could not taste the sugar. I was looking for something as close to "CoffeeMate" as I can get. It also appears to somewhat reduce the acid content of the coffee. I hope you enjoy it as I do

Source: I did not find this exact recipe on any site but it is a modification/combination of several others I found on "tastofhome.com" and "hubpages.com".

Thanks everyone!!!! I do believe I will try this recipe too. I knew CoffeeMate had a sweetener in it…(corn syrup solides) and it also has vegetable oil….wasn't sure how to incorporate the oil..

I like CoffeeMate because it does make the coffee smooth….Wow, I hope this works……because I have lots of rice!!!!!

I was thinking I might try the powdered milk….with just a little sweetener (I don't like my coffee sweet either), but now I am curious about the rice….I sure enjoy my coffee!!!!!…
Does anyone like Gevalia Coffee or Dunkin Donuts?? They are really good!!!

Thanks again,

Dana

I love Gevalia coffe.  Sighned up to get the free coffe pot and became addicted to the coffee.  There espresso blend is ground perfect for my espresso machine.

I love any kind of coffee!

I would never have thought of trying to make homemade coffee mate!  It does say on the container it is a non-dairy creamer.  So perhaps rice is the creamy part of it!

The original coffee lighteners were soy based. Or at least they were soy based somewhere in the evolution of the coffee additives! At one time there are places around the country where they grew soy beans that you couldn't find dairy creamers in the restaurants…

I got off of coffee recently, but I always used heavy whipping cream in mine.  Just a tablespoonful per cup is all it takes.  I've switched over to tea now, but I still use the heavy whipping cream in it.

It would make making the Hot Cocoa Mix a lot cheaper.  And there's ways to make flavors, too…….I'll check those out, too.

Here's a link to make flavored coffee mate.  Just use the above recipe to make the non-dairy coffee creamer

http://busycooks.about.com/lib…..fcream.htm

When I make the huge batch of Hot Cocoa Mix, I use flavored creamer for different flavored hot cocoa……this will come in very handy!

Well, this didn't disolve as badly as I was afraid it would, but it's not perfect either.  It DOES mellow the coffee pretty well, but I think I'm going to add more pwd milk.  Going to play with it a bit.

Thanks, BG, for working on this for us!!!  We'll be sure to edit the original recipe with a tried & true!

I have to say, no matter how much I milled this in my blender, it always left a LOT of sediment on the bottom of the cup.

It did mellow the coffee, and adding a little more milk helped it to whiten the coffee too.  (I started with a tablespoon more, then added another so 2 extra)

I think I'll stick to using canned milk when I'm in the mood for a 'desert cuppa'.

I almost bought the ingredients for this at the store today, but this store only had a sm box of instant powdered milk in packets and it was $3.29! So, I just decided to wait and get the stuff at another market! It's cold and raining here,so was too lazy to go to another market!!

Deb, do you think it's the white rice that's not dissolving?  It seems to me that you'd have to really get it to a fine powdered form for this to work right.  I don't think I own a machine capable of it!

Clover made me do it.
