I have alot of good recipes..but I chose this one because it is my late Step-grandmother's on my mother's side of the family. I was named after her – well my middle name. Her ancesters were from France and traced back to serving at the court in Versaille…like it mattered. LOL She lived in a small town all her life, but she did get to go see France/Versaille with us!! She would make this fruit cake for my dad each year. I hate fruit cake but liked hers – she said it was because it was more like a heavy date nut cake, with not too much of that fruit. It freezes well. My dad would sometimes save it, until he lost his Christmas poundage, to indulge.

                                         Mama Gene's Fruit Cake

Beat together: 4 eggs

                       1 cup sugar

Sift:  2 teaspoons Baking Powder

         1 cup flour

Roll in small amt. flour: 1/2 lb. candied cherries, 1/2 lb. candied pineapple, 1 quart of pecans and 1 lb. of Dates.

              Add to egg mixture, then add 1/2 cup Whiskey, 2 teaspoons of vanilla. Bake 350 degrees for one and a half hour. (Bake it in an Angelfood cake pan).
