Pear Relish
8 qts pears
6 large sweet onions
6 red bell peppers
4 cups sugar
1 tbsp salt
5 cups cider vinegar
1 tbsp allspice
Chop pears, onions and peppers, mix all ingredients and cook 30 minutes. Put in clean hot jars. Process in a water bath canner for about 10 minutes.
Of course, I changed the recipie a little adding a few hot peppers, I also made relish with Granny Smith apples and it is also very good. We put this relish on vegetables like peas, beans and greens. Some like it on hot dogs. Just another use for pears.

This recipe was originally found in the Farmhouse Table forum/5-Gallon Buckets of Pears topic.

I'm looking for a recipe with pears.
Now when I had so many apples I made apple pie filling with it..and trew it in the freezer.
Just wondering is there something like that for pears?
(yep hubby came home with a box of pears)

Last year, faced with a couple of bushels of pears, I made pear butter and then canned pear slices spiced with cinnamon imperials (those tiny, red-hot candies). They came out the most beautiful shade of pink, and so good I open a pint and eat them right from the jar as dessert.

I think pears can be used in any recipe as apples. Experiment and let us know how things turn out!!
