I've been meaning to post this soup recipe for awhile now . . . it didn't sound appetizing when I was told what was in it, but oh my goodness it is DELICIOUS!!  Even my picky husband LOVES it!

1 pkg kielbasa sausage (I use skinless smoked sausage sometimes – always skin the kielbasa though)

6 cups chicken broth

1 can tomatoes

1 onion

1/2 green pepper (optional – I don't use it in mine)

1 carrot

1 can kidney beans, drained

1/2 head of cabbage

About 5 potatoes

3 garlic cloves

pepper to taste

Cut veggies into small pieces.  Put everything in a soup pot and simmer 2 hours.  Great served with crusty bread!  Enjoy!  Happy Flower

Oh . . . I forgot.  I cut the kielbasa up into small, bite sized pieces and brown it in a pan (drain grease) and then add it to the soup.

Actually, this sounds quite good, and a wonderful addition to the winter menu rotation.

One question – do you cook the sauteed kielbasa in the pot with the veggies for the entire time?  Am also thinking that this might translate nicely to a crockpot!

Pete, I get the veggies simmering in the pot and then work on getting the kielbasa cut up (skin taken off)and browned.  As soon as it is browned, I add it to the pot to finish with the rest of the soup.  It would work very well in the crock pot.  Just haven't gotten around to trying it yet that way.  Definitely good in the winter time, but I have been known to make it year round.

Leahld22, you are welcome!  I hope you enjoy it.

Oh, one more thing. . . I do add some parsley (because I love it) and some bouquet garni as well.

This looks like an awesome hearty soup for the winter…..in the crock pot!  All good things in one!  Thank you!

Oh that sounds wonderful to me.  I'm going to have to add that to my list of recipes to try soon.

Yum!  And it's getting to be good soup weather here too.  Definitely will have to try this.  Thanks for sharing with us!

I know that we will like it.  It has some similar things going for it as a kielbasa stew we like a lot – with cabbage, carrots, and potatoes in it.  (That one is over in the Community Cookbook.)
