Sauerkraut and Pork Ribs

Crazy as it may seem, my family's favorite crock pot meal is Sauerkraut and Pork Ribs.  I love it because it is so simple to make.  I knew when I met my DH and he said he loved this meal, (his mother had made it for him, as mine had for me)  that we were destined to be together.

I just brown a package of country style ribs and layer them in the crockpot with sauerkraut.  A few ribs, a can of kraut, a few ribs, a can of kraut, a few ribs, a can of kraut.  Cook it all day and then make a big pot of mashed taters to go with it.  Heaven on a plate!

It's a great meal on a cold day!

I made this tonight and it's really good!  Thanks, Jayne!!  The only thing I did different was I added some thinly sliced green peppers along with the slaw because I had some green peppers that needed used.

Clover made me do it.

I've never added peppers but I bet they would be good.  So are onions!

I use to make this a lot, only using  pork steaks  browned in a dutch oven, sauerkraut on top and baked

very slowly for a few hours.  I think I like your idea of ribs better, I will try that.  And it is great over

mashed potatoes!

Isn't it strange this topic came up today — I just made polish sausage, sauerkraut and mashed potatoes for dinner.  Okay, it's better with ribs, but I had the sausages in the refrigerator, and it was a quick meal.

yes I think 3 pounds will be plenty.  I use 8 country ribs for 3 people.  But then we like the leftovers……….

I think I love Bratwurst and anything.  Except mustard.  I don't do mustard.

With all the talk about sauerkraut, I just had to post a recipe for homemade.  Homemade sauerkraut is so simple and so very, very good.  If you make your own, you'll never want that canned or bagged kind again.  Reuben Rollups, here I come Shimmy
