Ok, this craving all started when Pete sent me a link to Zingerman's in Ann Arbor. I landed on the page for Spiced Pecans. Well, I can't and won't pay $23/12 oz of spiced pecans!!!! I googled and found a recipe for spiced nuts that sounded all carmely, spicy…….and made it last night. It was very easy, but is just a mouthful of sugar around a nut, I can barely taste the nut.
Does anyone have a tried and true recipe for Spiced Nuts?

I HAD one for using chili mix and butter with mixed nuts in a crockpot, but have no idea where it wandered off to…

Oh, Pete……could it have wandered far? I'm thinking of coating the ones I made with chocolate and giving to my mom for one of her chocolate, sugar fixes! Just not what I was craving…………..

I dunno. Not even sure I wrote it down!
But, you might look around in here: http://www.diamondnuts.com/rec…..cipeId=167 to see if something strikes your fancy. Diamond seems to have a bunch of different recipes for spiced and candied nuts. Well, I suppose that they would, wouldn't they!

This is about the recipe I used, but it had 2 Tbl of butter in it, less water and had some chili pwd. I ended up using 3 cups of nuts, because there was so much syrup…………………
May have to do some googling for that chili mix in a crockpot Pete was talking about up there………..

Hmmm. Since it used a package of chili mix, perhaps McCormick would have it on their site??

Does this look familiar Pete?
Chili Nuts
Ingredients: 2 cans (12 ounce) cocktail peanuts 1/4 cup margarine or butter, melted 1 (1 5/8 oz) package chili seasoning mix
Directions: Add nuts to a slow cooker. Pour margarine or butter over nuts and sprinkle with dry chili mix. Toss until well mixed. Cover and heat on LOW 2 to 2-1/2 hours. Turn control on high, remove top and cook on High 10-15 minutes. Serve warm or cool in small nut dishes.
This spicy snack is just the thing for the nest time you sit down to watch a television event. Have lots of cold drinks available too!
Also found this one… looks good too, doesn't use chili mix, but it also doesn't look as cloyingly sweet as that other one.

Thanks Deb & Pete!!!! I like the looks of that last one…… I guess I'm going to be doing some experimenting!
I found this one, too……….wondering about the egg white, I've found several that use egg white.
Spicy Nuts
1 Egg White 1 c Peanuts,Unsalted 1 c Cashews,Unsalted 1 c Pecans,Unsalted 1 t Curry Powder 1 t Cinnamon 1 t Cumin 1/4 t Cayenne 3 T Brown Sugar
Preheat oven to 250 degrees. Beat egg white until foamy. Add nuts, tossing to coat. Combine remaining ingredients in a medium bowl; toss with nuts to coat. Spread nuts on a greased baking sheet in a single layer. Bake 1 hour, stirring once. Cool slightly and break apart. Cool completely and store in airtight container up to two weeks.
Yield: 15 Servings

That sure sounds like it! Errrr looks like it… :snoopy:
The one time we tried it there was waaaaay more salt than we wanted to consume, so I'd decided to use my own chili seasoning without the salt next time. And we used mixed nuts. It was good, except for being too salty.
