Taco soup

I don't can tomato soup so I do use precanned soup. The meat is usually from when we do tacos, I double the recipe and then freeze half of it for this soup.

1 large can (family size 26 oz) tomato soup + can of water

1 16 ounce jar of salsa (how hot is up to you)

1 lb of ground hamburger ( I use ground round or sirloin)

1 pkg of taco seasoning

Shredded cheese

tortilla chips broken up

Cook hamburger the way the taco seasoning calls for on the back(using ground round or sirloin is less fat so not much to drain so I add the seasoning to the raw meat). In large saucepan prepare soup with water, add taco meat, add jar of salsa. Heat until throughly hot, ladle into bowls top with shredded cheese and broken tortilla chips. If you wish a small dollop of sour cream and sliced black olives on top of the chips for presentation.

Since your soup is ready to eat I would just play around with the ingredient quanity. Again if you have left over taco meat from dinner its just a good way of using it up. I do have one recipe that calls for using canned chili (no beans) with tomato soup I just haven't tried it yet.

Editted to add: If it seems a little hot(spicy) to you, add a bit of sour cream at a time as butter fat in the sour cream will cool down the heat factor a bit. Just made this soup today using turkey meat.

This does sound intriguing, and as if it would be very adaptable.  Commercial tomato soup is so available and frequently so cheap that I am tempted by it often, but just don't like the taste of it very well.  These additions would make it tolerable!  Maybe even much more than simply tolerable!!  Happy Flower

Thanks!
