Mary and Ruthmarie, you both have a lot of good advice!  I'm a bit neurotic about privacy about personal information floating around, too.   With our credit card, I have the option of getting an e-mail when the card is used (you can set the $ amount).  It's a great feature for us as our shopping is very limited.  So I'm basically notified of every transaction.  One cannot be too careful!

Hi Donna.  Yep, I have that too, but it does not come on debit cards..  That's what they need to do..that's a great suggestion!

Yeah, see that's the danger because with a debit they take the money directly out of your account.  :(

Hey Mary, how are you?  I used my debit card a lot at home, but do not use it when I'm in Michigan

Hey Paws!  wave   How are you?

I'm good, enjoying unseasonably warm weather.  I have spring fever bad!

I wish they'd make better protection for our debit cards.  This all has me thinking hard about switching to credit cards altogether!

Mary B,

I do not even have a debit card.

I use one credit card for everything, I even pay my bills online with it. I then redeem the points I earn (1 point per $1) for gift/cash cards to retail stores and restaurants, or I can choose merchandise from a catalog. You are only liable for $50 if someone steals your credit card. A debit card theft could wipe you out. (I used a credit card at Taco Bell yesterday lol)

One other advantage of this system is balancing the checkbook. Hardly any transactions. I write one check to the credit card company.

I DO NOT bank online. I am only trying to reduce my risk there because my BANK does and if they are compromised in any way…………..well, I don't want to think about that.

Hi Laura.  wave   Good advise.  Someone else told me about that card that gives you money back.  I figured that was too good to be true, so didnt trust it, but you use it too, so it must be ok!

MaryB,

I use a Sears MC, but my mom uses a Discover card, which may be the one your friend told you about. I am saving my points right now for a large item but in the past I have redeemed them for Red Lobster, Kmart etc.
