OfflineHave any of you ever heard of a Pompeii (Italian Brick) Oven? I would like one of these and a few years ago downloaded the FREE plans. I bet if you built it right, you could bake other things in there as well. I would like to do bread…and of course, pizza!
Information is on this page: http://www.fornobravo.com/store/Pompeii-Oven-Instruction-e-Book-pdf-p-16249.html
The link for downloading is on this page: http://www.fornobravo.com/pompeii_oven/pompeii_oven.html
Why the plans are free is here: http://www.fornobravo.com/pompeii_oven/why_free.html
Why not build one of these too? ![]()

Offline This is the 32"hole to the footer of deck we hand-dug to get below frost line. Lots of work. IF I've added this picture correctly, I have more to share. We now have the pad poured, ready to start the block work for the actual stove (finally); which, alas, won't be started until early Aug. due to work schedules.
I know those outdoor ovens a beautiful, but not everybody would be able to make one.(like me)
An alternative might be to find an old wood burning cook stove and put it outside..like in an open shed with a chimney for the smoke of course.
There are still lots of old wood stoves out there who you can't have in the house other than for decoration (for insurance)
But as an outdoor oven they are perfect.
I found a nicer one for decoration in our kitchen with an breadbox on top…so my old one (see picture) will go outside, in an open shed and that is where we will warm up beverages in wintertime, warm our hands…and I might try to bake a pizza or bread in it.

OfflineJust letting those interested that the stove is taking shape! Husband is working alot of OT, so can only work on when home. We have both courses of blocks up, made a little side extension for a woodbox. We are going to encase it left over brick, make a small concrete "counter" out of black-tinted cement. Next step is to place firebricks. He also wants to set some posts for a roof over it. Lots of little specifics to get, work on now.
Not sure when this will be done and ready for use. I was hoping for canning season – maybe next year's.
Anyone else working on this project. I have emailed the gentleman who was featured in Mother's, he's been very prompt and helpful in his answers.
ALSO -- anyone attending the Mother Earth News Fair in PA? We are, can't wait!
Hoping all are having productive canning and back-to-school seasons.

OfflineOh, Theresa you poor thing! I would think 4 footers would have been enough to keep it steady? We just had to dig a hole 5 feet deep to put in an egress window (basement fire escape) and with all the clay it took days!
Well, I too love M E N and got this email, and I wish we were in a place to build that! I love all of their DIY stuff. Next Spring I'm going to have my son build me a composter, now that we'll have a place to put one.
