OfflineI had been thinking about doing this, and sort of let it go, but recently I saw two documentaries on it and my friends juice (although they don't fast on it), so I thought I'd give it a 10-day go to try and jump start healthier eating and maybe feel better and have more energy. I find I'm not able to fast because I have to have protein to keep my blood sugar from spiking, but I'm trying to stick with natural yogurt and fruits and veggies. I just started today. Oy. So, has anyone ever done this and how did it turn out for you? Any tips?

OfflineFirst, if this is your first time doing a fast and your normally eat very differently, or have health issues you should consult with a doctor before doing a fast as extreme fasts can damage your body, and potentially send you to the hospital (or worse).
When I've fasted I have done vegetable broth, raw veggies, and a boiled egg or two. I have only done fasts for a week or less. Most of the research I did beforehand suggested fasting for an extended period of time wasn't necessary to see benefits, such as increased energy.
I saw the most success with the first one I did (which was just a weekend on fresh raw vegetables and broth) After doing it I just felt better and had more energy. I can tell the difference if I do any sort of fast after I've eaten poorly for awhile. I wouldn't say that I have lost real weight from fasting though, most of the time once you start eating fully again it comes back, but it is possible to lose one or two pounds. Which if you are stuck at a certain weight can be helpful.
I think eating how you have been eating (fresh veggies, yogurt, in addition to the juice) is much healthier than trying to only have juice for 10 days. As long as you are eating unadulterated foods your body will "detox". If you start feeling sick, don't just write it off as toxins leaving your body- eat an egg or something more similar to your regular diet.

OfflineHeather, My wife just did this for about four days after oral surgery cause she couldn't get her tongue around anything that needed chewing.
Just start eating a healthy balanced diet and you will be fine. Remember if you want to weigh 125 pounds then you must eat like a 125 pound person eats. Don't squeeze the juice out of an orange, chew it out, the same holds for all food. Chewing satisfies the body. Eating a raw carrot is more filling than eating a boiled carrot with butter and salt and pepper. AND it takes longer.

OfflineWell, that lasted me 5 days and I didn't really stick to it all that well anyway. lol But I felt better. A lot's been going on here, but I'm going to try to get started again, just having the juice with good, balanced meals.
