It seems this fall has been awful for sinus problems.  My head is always stuffed up no matter what sinus pills I take.  Years ago I had sinus surgery so I don't really like the thought of that again.

I do wash my sinuses out…I hate doing that!

I refuse to admit that my cat is a main allergy!

Pecan dust from shelling pecans has not helped on bit either!

Okay…I feel so much better complaining about this with someone!  Thanks for listening…thankfully you can't hear how plugged up I sound…hahahahahahaha

Woke up this morning hacking and barking. Does that count?? Ah, well. It's just part of the transition from one season to the next. So far, have made it through each year to the next one!

Have you tried Advil Cold and Sinus?  A bunch of the deug companies a few years back changed their formulas, but this still has the good stuff in it.  Here we have to go ask the pharmacist for a box of it because it's not out with the other sinus stuff, but it works SO well, that's no big deal.

I haven't tried the Advil Cold and Sinus lately.   It seems I have sinus problems 365 days a year!  No joke, it never lets up.  I guess it is the humid wet climate of my area of Florida.

We ARE looking to buy somewhere else and move.  I can't believe we are thinking about this since Panama is where I was born and raised!  All my family is here, but I sure would like to experience the change of seasons.  How I would love that.  The mountains call to me and David agrees, a place at the foot of a mountain would be pure bliss.  Or a cabin…doesn't matter to me!  I would love a place to fish off the banks.  Have a few chickens, a duck or too…..I would be as happy as a hog in mud!

Do you take Vitamin C?  Vitamin C is a natural anti-histamine, and many people don't get enough.  The larger you are and the more stress you are under, or the more allergens in your environment, the more Vit C you need.  I take between 3,000 and 4,000mg per day.  Also, patent nostrums for "sinus relief" all cause what is known as the rebound effect.  When you take a drug, like pseudoephedrin for instance, when it wears off, your sinuses just don't go back to normal, they rebound by swelling up even more.  This can keep a person on a vicious cycle of never being able to get off the drug…actual physical addiction!  It can take days and days for the swelling to come down on its own after you quit if you've taken sinus drugs for any length of time.

I only had an actually allergy once before moving to Kansas at 46 years of age (2000). Every year I noticed my nose bothered me more and more and my eyes got red and itchy…geez is this what old age does???!!! Oh well I love living in the country here and I'll just live with the allergies…but sometimes they sure are a pain.

It is not what old age does.  My husband started getting "hay fever", and it got worse and worse each year, until I prevailed upon him to start taking lots of Vitamin C.  It took him awhile to become Vitamin C replete, but when he did, his allergies went away and didn't come back.  And they stay away as long as he keeps up his Vit C intake.  My husband is now 59 years old and has no more allergies.  Allergies are actually a sign of sub-clinical scurvy (Vitamin C deficiency disease).  Also, NSAIDS like aspirin and ibuprofen deplete the body of Vitamin C and by themselves can induce a Vitamin C deficiency (scurvy).

Helen I take at least 2500 mgs of vitamin C a day.  But the hayfever is still there and I am always plagued by it.  My head stuffs up, my ears plug up and nothing relieves it.  Rinsing my sinuses out everyday helps some but I guess beingin muggy moldy Florida doesn't help either.

I do swear by vitamin C for helping combat colds and such.  But since I quit smoking 11 years ago I don't have chest colds anymore.  I get a slight head cold and that is it. (knock on wood)

I just found a wonderful website http://www.cforyourself.com that you might want to check out.  It has some information on sinusitus (which I used to get, too) that you might find interesting.  It may be that even though you take at least 2,500mg/day, you might need even more.  I know that 2,500mg/day seems like alot, but it really isn't, especially since you live in a climate where mold grows so easily…as it does here, too.  I'm not saying that I'm necessarily right, or that you are wrong…I'm just trying to pass along some information that you, and others like you, might find useful, because I simply cannot for the life of me think that sinusitus, allergies and such are caused by an "Advil Cold and Flu deficiency".

Helen I appreciate you telling me this.  I will up my dose to at least 4000mg a day and see how that works.  Taking such a large amount won't hurt anything…what our bodies don't use we just tinkle it out!

I know there are things I'm allergic to but I am not able to keep away from most of them.  My cat is one that I will not do without and other furry little friends.

I'll give the extra C a try and see.  Thanks again, I really do appreciate the heads up about this Vitamin C!

Oh, I know what you mean about not being willing to give up your cat for anything in the world!  My cat is my very best friend, and I would suffer anything to keep her.  I hope that taking the extra "C" works for you…I hate to see people suffering, and I hate to see pharmaceutical companies pushing toxins that make people worse over time when there are natural remedies that really work out there.

I'm going to start taking Vit C ,was taking it then I had a bout of hives and rashes for 3mos and had to come off everything to see what was causing it then never started back on that one. But, I take the Nsaids, not realizing they were depleting the Vit C. Thanks for the info!

My kids pediatrician told me that if you put a little coating vaseline in your nose it helps keep alot of allergens out.

Thanks, guys Hug…I just feel like I'd be being terribly remiss if I didn't pass that kind of info along.

I suffer from sinus too…and it seems it's things I consume, such as soda, that triggers it or milk. I used to get allergy shots. You do have to watch that you dont' MASS consume vitamins, as our bodies are not meant to get mass amt.s – they get TINY amt.s from foods we eat and I have heard that too much Vit. C can cause bladder cancer. So, really do the research, I say. I do take some when I have a cold or such and I do feel it helps.

From what I've read, the body uses up astonishing amounts of Vit C fighting viruses…up to hundreds of thousands of mgs/day, because viruses cause massive inflammation, and Vit C is the body's main anti-inflammitory.  People have actually been cured of rabies with massive amounts of intravenous Vit C.  There is also evidence that alot of artery disease is Vit C deficiency-based.  I was eating an all-natural diet of organic food, but I still had sub-clinical scurvy…any mosquito bites I got used to swell up to the size of oranges…to the point of impeeding my circulation…I kid you not.  The doctor wanted to put me steroids, but I balked.  I just knew that steroids were not the answer.  The answer just fell into my lap, so to speak.  One day at the store, I simply had the impulse, out of the blue, to buy some Vitamin C.  I listened to that impulse, and within weeks the swelling when I got a mosquito bite disappeared.  Since I take lots of "C" now, any skeeter bites I get don't even itch.
