When you say budgie what kind of bird are you referring to? Sorry, I have just heard quail, chickens, parrotts, and just about every kind of bird out there referred to as a budgie…wink heart

happy-flowerI think another name for budgie is a parakeet. My little guy is the same size as a canary but has a curved beak like a parrot and is a beautiful sky blue color.

I wish I knew more about computers, so I could link a picture but :)

Budgies can be very friendly birds.

You do need to take time to hand train them though.

Budgies like to have space to fly around, we let our 2 fly around the house whenever they want, we only close the cage door at night.

They also like to chew on wood, make sure anything you put in the cage in non-toxic.

I hope this help.

Thank you, Pat.

Hopefully, he'll start to trust me. I do know that he can say "hello", and since he's only been here a week, I doubt he got that from me.

He willn't eat any fruits/veg, and seems very suspicious of any thing being put in his cage.no

Ours used to love the leafy ends of celery.  We'd stick the leaves in between the bars of his cage and he'd just love it!  I know he liked other veggies but I mostly remember how much he loved the celery fronds.

You can make a bird corn bread with a normal recipe, cut out the sugar and salt, add in bird seed and other grains.  They love it.  Any veggie BUT NOT lettuce and Avocado.  Avocado is deadly for them.  Romain lettuce is fine.  A little bit of cooked egg when they molt is good.  Cucumbers help them and they love them, especially when they molt.  Green beans, corn shredded carrot, well washed green pepper- they will love it.  It may take them a day to try it if they are older and have never had fresh food.  You will have a beautiful happy bird if you give them a diet of much more than just seed.

censored So I've been trying to make friends with this budgie… I even downloaded 3 hrs of Budgie sounds to try and get this little guy moving/singing. Since then he hasn't said hello or really want anything to do with me…. he just wants his tapes. (sigh) He still willn't eat his veggies and anything new that goes into his cage, he treats as a possible threat.

laughI just wanted to thanks you guys again for your ideas. It's time to play his tapes:)

No mirror, either, or he will fall in love with that. Maybe you should not play the other sounds, so he looks to you, instead of them, for communication.
