After a long, tedious, yet productive day in the office (Medicaid is responsible for the death of many forests!), I went to dance class. It was a bit longer than usual because we're semi-rehearsing for a public recital.
I came home drenched with sweat, practicing choreography in my head while listenting to the music to which we'll dance, and feeling GREAT!
Does anyone else take a dance class?

Whew!
You wouldn't believe the lectures I get from people about the evil nature of belly dance from people who know nothing of the history!

I took belly dancing classes some yrs ago. I've also had country line dancing lessons. Dont remember everything, but I can still pull off the Electric Slide. I danced at my son's wedding (half the night)this spring. These days I dance with my grandbaby, she's dancing around all the time!

I took belly dancing classes years ago after my DD was born. It was fun and great exercise. I can still remember my Mom laughing so hard that tears ran down her face as I tried to show her the camel walk.LOL

I have dear friends thats take belly dancing classes, and one friend that does it professionally with a group. So kudos to you, lady! :D
If I could find anyone near Charleston teaching, I'd definitely looking into taking them myself. I have DVDs and I've learned a little on my own, but it just doesn't feel the same as having a group to laugh with as you learn.

Hubs and I took country line-dance lessons quite a few years ago. We travelled all over the area and did exhibition dances, all dressed alike and everything. It was so much fun. Then Hubs' knees went south and we had to quit. By the time he got his knees fixed, I had foot problems. If I could ever get that solved, I'd sure love to start back.
Belly dancing sounds fun, too, but I'm not real coordinated. Don't know if I could do it. –Ilene

I just love to dance, but my husband doesnt, so I dance by myself. I took belly dancing lessons years ago, but oddly, I have always danced like a gypsy. Then a couple of years ago, I found out that my mother's people are Rom, Hungarian Rom, and I understood why I had always danced the way I do…as odd as it sounds, its in my blood.

Hi, Leah. As far as I know, belly dance seems to be a remnant of the old Goddess religion. Gypsies, the Rom, are still Goddess worshipers, with a heavy Christian overlay. Many cultures have their own version of belly dance. The hula is a form of belly dance. So is Flamenco.
