OfflineWe purchased a 100 year old De Laval Cream Separator No. 12(got it in November) that is in wonder condition. The gentleman that sold it to us did not have the instruction book and I have searched the web and have picked up some info but really need a copy of the book to help with questions. After much searching last night I found out a little more about how to adjust the flow of the milk/cream. Next time we get raw milk maybe we might do a better job of separating it.
Does anyone have or know where I can get a copy of the instructions for a De Laval No. 12 Cream Separator? Don't want to have to spend an arm and leg for it. I have written to the company twice with no replies. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks

OnlineI have one suggestion for now that hopefully will help… get as many free instructions for any and all other cream separators off the web and read them. Most are fairly basic pieces of machinery and the principal of what the do is the same across the board. The details will of course be different, but with enough info to compare it with other types should help you figure out the process with yours.
That being said, I'm going to go research it too…
OH, here in the Ohio/WVa/PA area, we have a newspaper called (I think) Farm & Dairy and they have quite a complete classified section. I wonder if you have something along those lines where you could take out a small classified ad asking for info about it. Farmers around here read that sucker from front to back, even if they aren't currently farming. It's like a religion to read that thing! I bet someone would know about your separator… and love to share information with someone!

OfflineYou might write to some of the hobby type farm magazines…like Grit, Hobby Farms, Mother Earth…they sometimes have a coloumn where you can ask questions. My husband used to use a cream separator when he was a teenager…not sure if I would trust his memory…he can't even remember 3 blocks to the grocery store! ![]()

OfflineWe had one of those when I was young. The cones are numbered as I recall and must be stacked in proper order. The brass nut on top adjusts the degree of separation for the milk and the cream. Mother always set it up but she took time to explain it if we would listen. I can't recall the exact details but I do know that the more tightly the nut was turned the thicker was the cream. There are two spouts and the lower one carries the skim milk. The bowl sits on top and there must be a flow control devise but I don't remember the details on that .
