Critters and varmints moved in here this summer.

We had a squirrl in the attic …until a coon chased him out.

The groundhog dug a hole under the porch and tunneled under the concrete slab that our house is built on…for some unknown reason he just moved out.

A mama possum moved into the groundhogs old digs and had 7 babies. Those little babies found their way up under the bathtub drain area.

The rabbits ate my lettuce and green beans, the box turtles ate my tomatoes and something took one bite out of every eggplant that set on!

I wonder what it would be like if we lived in the country instead of town?chicken

you must live in an awesome town, if so many critters move in with you LOL

sorry can't help you, but feel for you.

(but I bet those babies were cute as a button.)

This is a great thread. I tried the simple vinager solution and that worked just great. If they come back I will use the borax because I have that on hand.  I will look around for the DE, just to keep it in the house in case.  Thanks for all the great suggestions. You are all the BEST!

I have just used plain cinnamon. I saw ants on the bottom of the outside door one morning. I sprinkled on a line of cinnamon and the ants turn away from it and went back outside. After 15 minutes there were no signs of any ants.

I've used a simple mix of dish soap and water (maybe 1T in a standard spray bottle, the rest water) to kill those little ants, but I don't know if it keeps them from coming back.  I had fruit flies one summer too, and never did figure out how to kill the little buggers.  lol

Problem with fruit flies is they die in one day anyway, and the new ones the next morning are all newly hatched!  Frustrating!

Ugh! The gnats are what is driving me crazy right now!  I can't seem to get rid of them.  I have determined that they favor living in the soil of my Christmas cactus no  I am really hoping that they don't kill it.  Of course they pick my favorite plant to live in!  I can catch at least 50 of them a night in apple cider vinegar, but it doesn't seem to slow them down.  Very frustrating!

sounds like whiteflies!  They are hiding on the UNDERSIDE of the leaves, so if you are spraying with soap solution, be sure to spray under the leaves.  They LOVE yellow.  Garden centers will have yellow sticky tapes, tabs or flags that you can put around the plants and they will be covered with the little pests in no time. They don't often kill plants, but they can sort of wear them down because they suck the moisture out of the leaves and such, and they can spread to other plants very easily.

It takes time to get rid of them because most of the ones you get rid of are the adults, not the eggs and nymphs.  Garden centers should have a light oil based not terribly nasty insecticide spray that will smother the eggs and nymphs and keep them from hatching or developing which is good.  That's what I'd go for myself, as well as some of the yellow sticky tapes to trap any on the fly.  I'm all in favor of staying away from poisons, but this is a very safe product, don't know any names off the top of my head just now though.  Hopefully others will toss out some brands.

:D  No worries.  It's nice to know someone else has moments like that!  It's that stuff you put on cereal!  White!  Cold!  From cows and stuff!  ;)

Neem oil is sold under tons of different brand names, but I don't know that any particular one is better or worse than another.  And it's organic, so you don't have to worry about consumption or harmful stuff.

I will have to go get myself a neem oil based spray and try to get rid of the little buggars!  There is nothing like having your hand stuck in a bread making mess and have a gnat fly up your nose!  bug-eyed  I seem to get them every spring and this year they seem to be worse than ever!  The good thing is they go away in the winter……. Unfortunately, this is Arizona and winter is a long way off and quite short.  Thank you ladies for the suggestions!
