Suzanne, you asked how to get the wood stove going —
Here's what we do. Take an empty 12 pk soft drink box and stuff it FULL of dry kindling. Pine cones are great.
You can stuff dryer lint in a cardboard paper towel tube. Build your fire around that. You have to have dry wood and kindling. Dh puts just a little vegetable oil on it to get it going (I know you're not supposed to put anything but wood in a woodstove — but I failed girl scouts)
Sometimes you just can't get any DRAW (outside atmosphere conditions)
We've had our stove about 5 years and I absolutely love it!

My sister in law uses a 2 liter bottle to get hers going, puts it in and lets it melt down over the wood, the melting plastic keeps the wood going………….I told her that was probably wasn't healthy, she told me freezing to death wasn't healthy either!!

I'm gonna try making some of the firestarter things people mentioned. I'm getting together some toilet paper tubes and paper towel tubes and dryer lint. Also gonna try the pine cones with wax.

With the pincones/wax, at least everything will smell sooooooo good! Leave them in a basket all over the house, and you have the smell of candles without lighting!
