OfflineI was just thinking about this…
I think I did some kind of search about 'chicken' or 'chickens' or some such. I opened a bunch of them and was paging through them… when I got to CitR I think I just tagged it for reading later and went on with what I was doing. I think that evening I got caught up in the 'Slanted Little House' story and was HOOKED!!!
How about you?
I did a google search for homemade bread and kept refining my search until I found a recipe that didn't include milk. I wanted the good old recipe that Mom used to make. I landed on CiTR, loved the way I was absorbed right into making bread with her, she has such great tutorials and pictures. I kept clicking on different links finding more things she was doing and discovering she was living how I wanted to be living and seemed "down to earth". Grandmother Bread was only the beginning!

Well, I found Chickens in the Road because I was looking for pictures of chickens!! Trying to identify some of the gorgeous Old English Gamecock bantam roos that we have.
Yes, you don't need a rooster at all to make eggs, and, you certainly don't need one for every 3 or 4 hens
but they are soooooo beautiful. Of course, it is the eight "fuzzy butt club" girls who really lay the nice eggs, the clucky buff orpingtons and barred rock or whatever those black and white ones are. Big gorgeous dark brown eggs…
The blog that hooked me that day was the poetic one about Winter, and I immediately sent the link to about 40 friends, some of whom have even thanked me. The photographs keep me coming back, too, since I am so jealous of those.
And, thanks again. I enjoy it every day. (I have just identified our latest rooster addition as a Silver Duckwing… will max out at 24 ounces, maybe. He is a tough little guy, too. Search on that, online pics are much better than mine, right now. )
My daughter turned me on to it, and now we both visit the first thing every morning to see what's up with Suzanne and her crew. I haven't explored everything yet, but I love reading all the posts and especially the recipes!
I am spreading the word through my facebook friends and also on my blog page.
Keep up the good work, Suzanne. You are doing a wonderful job.
Grace in CA
My family is from Roane County and I belive I typed in "Walton, WV."
I was looking for some information on Walton High School, my Mom and cousins went to school there.
Suzanne's site was listed there. I have been hooked ever since!!!!

OfflineI was struck with an urge to make a corn husk doll, googled, and Suzanne's doll showed up. I started to read and laugh and drooled over luscious pictures of cinnamon buns and got hooked.
It was a good day when I found CitR!
I used to read Farmgirl Fare, and a commenter on that blog mentioned CitR, so I visited and was hooked immediately. Suzanne had just moved into the new farmhouse, and it was so much fun to backtrack to see how she arrived there.

OfflineYa know, I can't for the life of me remember. Ever since I sorta learned how to work this blog-reading stuff, I've mostly read the farm and agricultural blogs (with a couple of political ones and a couple of scary, as in "ghost story" ones 'cause that's how my mind works). Anyway, some of them were good with some direction on how to do farm stuff, some of them the writer would say " I made six loaves of "tofu bread" in fifteen minutes today." and I would think "Okay, but how".So I thought "Maybe I should start a blog that would tell exactly how to do these things. If it had good basic instruction and were well-written and well-organized alot of people would like to read that."
I started looking around for some ideas, hoping to bring the best of all farmblogs together and came across 'Chickens in the Road". I stopped right there and said " Here it is, here's the blog I wanted to create. And like, being as how she actually has a farm, is an excellent writer and organizer, and takes great pictures, I guess I'll just let Suzanne keep writing my blog for me." ![]()
All this, plus Clover and Little Crooked Hen stories, too. I'm in farmblog heaven!

OfflineSome very nice stories which led people here! A friend sent me here to check out a WV blog. This was definitely a place I wanted to check out, so I bookmarked the site and came back later for a thorough look around. That was over a year ago, and it still feels like home here.
