OfflineSo every year at my work (a large Banking Corporation) we make a BIG DEAL out of Halloween. Every Department does something to try and win prizes, and some years the amount of time and effort that goes into a display is incredible. It is very cut-throat and secrative, and usually there is a theme you have to follow. It can't be scary, so the little kids that come Trick or Treating through here (kids and grandkids usually) have a good time.
This year the theme is United States. So, our department decided after a LONG meeting, to all be Miss America contestants, and each had to pick a state, and we will decorate our cubicles to represent it. We are on our own for our costumes, as long as we wear a tiara and a sash with "Miss (State)" on it. You can dress to do talent, or you can wear a ball gown, but I don't see anyone here wearing their swim suit! So, the "easy to dress and decorate States" went quick, and nobody was allowed to be Michigan, since we all live here… so, guess what state I picked? My Boss asked me what my talent was going to be, and without thinking I said "Milking goats and cows and making cheese!" LOL
I am going to decorate my cubicle to look like mountains, with oil derricks, a coal mine and maybe a black bear in the hills! This could either be a lot of fun or a big disaster!

OfflineBlyss, you're so talented! I can't wait to see your creations. Do they have blow up cows and goats or are you bringing the real thing? Surely the real thing would be a hit with the kiddos! No one would want to leave your cubicle and you would win hands down! Just be sure to lay tarps under the straw and animals and little sacks under their back ends (like horses)
so the carpets don't get ruined. Also, make sure whoever drops off the animals leaves and doesn't have a cell phone so they can't make the animals leave! (I got your back!) Will the cow look like Hannibal Lechter, too?
Oh yeah, people in WV don't wear shoes…they wear BOOOO…TS! You could paint little ghosts on your BOOOO…TS, too. LOL

OfflineAwwwww! Thanks for all the support Gals! Love me my Chicken Sisters! I will definately take a lot of pics…. and some of the ideas as well!
It was funny this afternoon, my Boss was asking all of us "what do we hope to inspire if we win?" and every other woman said, "World Peace" thinking they were funny… except me. I said, "I want everyone to have a cow and goat in their yard, and some chickens in their roads!" Yup… I got "the look." Nobody understands me there! Maybe I should have said I want to inspire Excalibur to send us all a 9 tray! *grins*
Regardless, I will do my booooooo t wearing best to put us over the top and a win! Do they make formal wear in calico or gingham? And no animals, weapons or plant type materials allowed… so it will have to be a blow up or large stuffed animal, without hay, straw or corn shocks… *sighs*

OfflineUPDATE: We WON!!! LOL
I had the week prior to the contest off from work, and went on the road with Sgail in his Semi… and we ended up going to WEST VIRGINIA!! What a coinkeedinky! So, he sweetly stopped at the Welcome Center and I loaded up with brochures, maps, pictures, etc. and when we stayed in this little Mom and Pop Truck stop in WV (on my Birthday) Sgail bought me a can of "Creamed Possum" and another of "Roadrunner Roadkill" (Yes, I know there are no roadrunners in WV, but these were really funny, and he thought they would make me smile if I displayed them amongst my other canning "trophies." They are fake, of course, and the deciding factor between the Buzzard Gizzards and the Roadrunner was the little feathers sticking out of the can's top on the Roadrunner!) And, then when I got home my kids had bought me some "Chicken Poop Lip Balm!" LOL… what does my family think of me that these are my birthday gifts? (And what does it say about me that I LOVE these kinds of gifts?)
So, for the cubicle I displayed the canned goodies and lip balm, hung a ton of pictures and maps, had some black bears, and wore a ball gown with a flannel shirt knotted over the chest (gown was strapless and we were supposed to be decently covered) and for footwear I wore my boots! When the judges came by, and one asked about my footwear, I said they took so long coming to judge that I HAD to run down to my barn and milk my goat…. and I can't wear heels to the barn for goodness sakes! (They were already laughing over the canned goodies.)
Then we had a little "skit" where we were asked a question… and no matter the question everyone was answering "World Peace." My question was what would make the world a better place, and I said "If everyone had a milk goat or cow in their backyard!"
Between me, Miss North Dakota who wore a mini skirt with her furry winter boots, an Elmer Fudd hat, winter scarf and mittens, and Miss Georgia who had interesting law knowledge (In Georgia it is illegal to tie a giraff to a lamp pole and it is also illegal to keep a donkey in a bathtub) I think the judges had hurting sides from laughing so hard. Then our upper Boss broke into "There she is, Miss America…." while giving Miss Hawaii a bouquet of almost dead pink roses… it was an experience!
So, thanks for all the helpful suggestions and comradery Sistas! It ended up being a really fun time!
