An old friend just emailed me and told me that he and his wife were going to take a small vacation to Italy next month and would be there in time to the pasta harvest. He said that it is quite a festive time and should be great fun.

Yep, must be a wonderful area where they get two harvests a year! Southern Italy no doubt…

Be sure to share pics of that pasta harvest! Do they do it all by hand, or are there special mechanized pasta pickers?

How they used to do it way back in the day. I wonder how they keep the varieties apart in the fields… hybrid spaghetti x elbows must be a real nuisance!

I think the spagetti grows 'drooping' from the duram trees. The elbow macaroni grows upward from semolina plant in the ground….then it is cut into bite size pieces. It's a global sharing thing. Just for those of us not living in Italy.
I have some pics of each variety…just need to find them!
