So, on a Facebook canning group several are raving about the outrageous deals they are getting at Lowe's. $75 canner kits for 6 bucks, etc. When I looked online at MY Lowe's there were 4 packs of jars for 98 cents, etc. Unfortunately when I called they said everything was sold around Thanksgiving. Here's a copy/paste of one person's deal from today – I encourage you to check at your nearby Lowe's just in case!

The deal of the year at Lowe's this am:
4 dozen qts
4 dozen pints
4 pkg fiesta salsa
12- ball blue books (for gifts)
21 dozen cap/lid sets
1 jar lifter
33 dozen lids
5 jars pectin
All for: (drum roll)….. $76 with tax!!

No luck at my Lowe's, but thanks for the tip.

I (sorta) have a farm in Africa.

I didn't have any luck at Lowe's either. The kid that I asked said …"Oh, that must be a seasonal thing…they'll be back next summer." Now I remember why we had quit going to that particular Lowe's store…. we could never get anything but poor customer service. No one ever knew anything and never tried to find out.

My husband just got back from Lowe's.  The jars were for the for the most part gone, but he did get a few packs of the plastic freezer jars for about a $1 a pack.  He also was able to get widemouth lids for about .40 a box & the Ball waterbath canning kit (the one that includes the canning pot) for $20…regular $80.  Pectin was $1 a jar…with the packets going for .25.  All in all he scored a trunk full of stuff for for $50.  He chatted up the person at Lowe's & they said they only carrying canning supplies seasonally, so each year they clear everything out at these prices.  Must remember this for next year!!!

I did get some rings and lids, no boxes with just lids.  I had loaded up earlier at Tractor Supply, so the Lowes items went into Auntie's gift box.

Awww, all the canning goods are phfffft here at our local Lowe's … supposedly gone last month.  I will mark the calendar for next year to cruise the aisles in Oct/Nov.  I'm not holding my breath for the deep deals though as I seldom see those lovely below-dollar discounts here.  Save maybe the clearance sales after Christmas … this year finances are sufficiently tight that it's a low-key holiday with a focus on shopping afterwards for needful things like sweaters 'n new jeans.

Glad some of you found some things! Seems to vary widely from store to store and area. I know I about fell over when I saw a display of Pickle Crisp up near the registers at my Lowe's last year LOL. I need to remember to check mine out around Halloween next year for their markdowns which are obviously DEEP. COOL!

Found a Wilton "Hannah Montana" cake mold for $1 at TJ Maxx the other day.  Terrific gag gift for a buddy with a granddaughter who is googly for the character.  (Is it a real person or a comic character?  I dunno, and it makes no dif to this story!)

So, gave her the cake mold already, with the instructions (did you know that Wilton has PDF files for their cake molds??).  She plans to pass it along, and watch her daughter squirm!  How's this for an intergenerational gag gift?  HAH!  My friend was muttering something about paybacks.   laugh

Forgot to add that I scored a pound of gourmet coffee on a local radio station in a Christmas trivia call-in thing.  Great coffee, from a local coffee house.  Yum!

Thanks for the heads up about Lowes.  I went by after work today.  All the jars and canners were gone of course, but I was able to load up on lids and rings and 8oz freezer containers.  Pickle crisp was $.80 with exp. date of 2014.  Also got a couple of jars of pectin.  Now I need to get busy on the stuff in the freezer that I couldn't get to this summer.   happy-feet

Our Aldi's keeps having the pineapple for 99 cents.  I have thought about getting some but was concerned the seasonal factor (hope that makes sense).

Since pineapples need to be shipped in no matter what the season is, I don't think there is a big seasonal factor so I guess I feel that if they're in the store, they're in season.  Maybe the ones from Hawaii aren't here yet but others are good too!  at 99 cents, I'd go for it!

"Pineapple" has become a household word around here lately. :) We have been buying them every week. When you get a great deal like 99 cents though, I think I would swoop up a few, core them, cut them up, and freeze them. I always have some cut up in the freezer. Great to snack on, use in smoothies frozen, been making alot of fresh pineapple upsidedown cakes lately.

Hi Dee, I am so glad to know that you can freeze pineapple, for some reason, I thought it couldnt be frozen. Krogers has them for 99 cents this week, I will try to get into town and purchase a couple.

I picked up a couple at Aldi's today while I was out.  They are from Costa Rica and are shorter than some others I have seen.

I froze some slices so that I would have them to go with grilled ham and ended up dicing them up and canning them.

I think these will probably end up as canned slices.

I think that I got a really good deal on vanilla beans here  http://www.olivenation.com/Pre…..la-Beans  .   A half a pound of beans, around 54 beans they say, cost $27.00 with free shipping and when the package arrived, there was a coupon good for 30 days for 20% off total order (some restrictions apply).

I'm really not sure if it is the best, best, best deal but I have looked and looked and it was the free shipping that sold me, not every product offered on the site has free shipping. But I have been anxious to make some homemade vanilla,  got tired of web surfing, looking for the best deals and said finally said "what the heck".

Of course, it will take awhile before I can report back on the quality of the beans. I have to wait until payday to buy the vodka and then there is the steeping time. I can't wait!

Good score, lb!  Even if the quality is not the best, best, best that there ever was, they will certainly be better than most of what you could have found on a shelf somewhere, right?  And you will have soooo much fun finding uses for them.

Meanwhile, it's now official – I need to reassess my life because the BIG excitement today was finding some small pie tins on clearance!  Uh, well, maybe that's a good thing?  Means nothing BAD was going on here!

Anyway, was looking at some little pot pie sized pie pans and thought that having a few would be pretty neat, and not take up much space.  We really do like pot pies, but the frozen ones are kinda disgusting.  At $4.99 for 2 of them, decided not today.

But then, there were some in the clearance aisle for $3 for the same package.  Still a bit more than I thought they are worth, but took them.  We will enjoy them, and they still won't take up much space!

If you have a Tractor Supply Co nearby, they have their winter stuff on clearance.  I got a thinsulate brand hat (beanie or watch-cap style) for $0.50!  And it is WARM!  I also finally broke down and bought a pair of insulated overals for $50… marked down from $99.

Also, Southern States Co-Op has their winter clothes on sale as well.  I haven't had a chance to peruse but their stuff is good quality, and right now at least 30-40% off.
