Sister called the other day, I got 18 cases of quart jars and 2 cases of pints.  Free, delivered to my house!!   One of the daughters friends cleaned out Grandma's house.

I love being gifted canning jars!!! I've told my closest friends I would take all of the jars they want to get rid of. Sometimes they might be a little dirty from sitting for so many years …but they wash!!

I have been very lucky, this is about the 4th time that I was gifted with jars.  We had a friend that worked at out recycle center and he would call when canning jars came in.  We got about 30 cases from him.  They one time a neighbor called, and asked if I would like to buy some as a good price, said yes gave them $60 and got a pickup truck full of jars-I think it was over 20 cases them.   Have plenty of quarts, but I use a lot of pints and halfpints.

Was picking up some end-of-season good-deal jars at the local hardware when I noticed a pack of coupons next to the pectin for $1.50 off a case of jars with the purchase of a container of pectin.

Was looking for an excuse to buy the "Classic Pectin" in the container that you can measure out what you need instead of opening the full box, and this was it!  Pectin jar was full price, but with $1.50 off the jars I was going to buy anyway, it was a good enough excuse.

All to say – there may be more of those coupons at your local Ball outlet, so keep an eagle eye open for them!

Pete, that was a great find!  Like you said, you were buying the jars anyway!

A lot of our local grocery stores are having good prices on pork this week…whole pork loins $1.38 a pound! I am going to make jerky this weekend!!!happy-feet And use the recipe from the retreat…of course.

Hopefully other areas besides the mid-west are having meat sales.

For anyone interested. I just got an email from Excalibur. They have a 10% discount now thru October 15. The discount code is 10OCT15 . Now might be a good time to get yourself and early Christmas gift.

Anyone who has a LOWE's Home Improvement store near them, they have all of their canning supplies 50% off!!!

Just scored 9 cases of the 24 ounce Ball Canning Jars at half price!
I ordered online and they are pulling my order together. Whoo Hoo! I also got 10 cases of the jelly jars too- I seem to be low on those!

Now, those of you who know me, know I already have way too many canning jars!  But …I NEEDED those 24 ounce jars!   LOL

I'll go and pick them up in the morning.shimmy--That's my happy dance!

Sharon B,

Hubby just called. He's at Lowes right now picking up jars because of your post. Thank you.

My other good news, this morning in my email the local grocery store has butterfly pork chops on sale for $1.69/lb. I'm going to stock my freezer so I have plenty on had for making jerky for Christmas presents.

Wahoo! Life I'd good.

Kelly B.  I'm so glad that you were able to get in on that deal.

Great buy on the pork!  I'm going to try that recipe for pork jerky.  Looking for a sale!  I'll also price the pork at Costco.

Sharon b,

That's one of the prettiest sites to see. It looks like we bought many of the same type of jars. They had two of the squatty half pint jars that were loose and gave them to DH. Life is grand.

I've got apples in the steam juicer so those jars won't be empty for long.

Sooo jealous here!  All our Lowe's are completely out of everything canning, so we can't get any deals there.

But, I did snag some lids at the Dollar General.  Happened to be near one I usually do not frequent and they had a couple of cases of quart jars at the normal price, so I passed on them.  BUT they had a dozen or so boxes of lids left.  Their normal price is 1.25, so I got 10 boxes of them.  I like them because they are the plain lids from Golden Harvest.

So, not a complete loss today.

Yep, our Lowes had very little, but they had some bulk pectin and citric acid left, a few boxes of lids and some quilted jelly jars left too.  I got some of each since I like to make my jellies from frozen fruit later in the year, and the pectin will keep since it's well sealed and has a 'best if used by' date of 2015. I wish they'd had some of the 24 oz jars, that's an AWESOME deal Sharon!  I'm just a tiny bit jealous of that myself.  They are my favorite size now!  …well, they always were but I only had 2 from the way back machine of my Mom's collection.

Oh Kelly B., we'll put those jars to good use!  I love my steam juicer too and need to get a couple of bushels of apples and get busy!

Pete, I like the Golden Harvest seals/lids.  They don't have the BPA on them like the new Ball ones do.  You got a good deal!

BuckeyeGirl, I am still using pectin that I bought from a Lowe's clearance two years ago.  It expires next summer.  I'm planning on doing some jellies/jams for CHRISTmas baskets this year, so I'll use it up.  I also got some of the Citric Acid and this is the first time I actually 'held' the new 24 oz jar in my hand and I too, think it will be my favorite.  It's a better size for us.

When I went in this morning to pick up my order, I wandered over to the clearance section (to be sure I had gotten all of the jars…LOL)

They had the Ball canner starter kit (the one with 3 jars) the Blue book and the utensils set half price.

I got one of each and thought I'd put it together as a canning set for one of the door prizes next year for Suzanne at the retreat.  Even if you're a seasoned canner like many of us, it's still a great prize that you can put to good use and if a newbie canner wins it, then that's better still!

I love that we have a good deal alert board.  While we won't all get the same deals, it's good to have a place to post!

Had to make the 2 hour drive to Costco today and there are two Lowe's on the way.

Total haul between the three Lowe's was

12 cases of the 24 oz jars

10 cases of jelly jars

22 boxes of the 4 pc pint Elite Jars

3 boxes of the  4 pc. 1/2 pint Elite Jars

I got my Daughter in Law the Ball canning set (1881 Canner and supplies)

A few openers and a few more of the Ball Utensil sets.lowes1-1.jpg

hissy-fithissy-fithissy-fithissy-fithissy-fit  Either our Lowe's don't carry canning supplies or I missed out and I am so jealous.

My two closest ones didn't have anything, either, but I went by a third yesterday. All the jars were gone, but I did get 6 containers of citric acid and 4 of pectin. :-)

Our Lowe's last year had some really great late summer deals.  Am guessing that they did not stock as much this year.  They certainly ran out of everything early however much they had.  I looked earlier in the summer and they did not have much even then.

So, those who got them this year at Lowe's – be grateful.  If our experience here is any indication, you may not see much next year.  (But I would be OK being proven wrong on that!)
