JAYNE!!! I found some dominos for 2.00 a set. white or black, regular size. Is that what you use? There is an Asian couple that comes to town once a month with a huge truck load of stuff. They set up in the parking lot of a local hotel and set out boxes and boxes of stuff for 1.00 to 5.00. I'll get you some if you want.

I do!  Do they have different sizes??  I just need the plain white ones with Black dots.  But if they have two sizes I'll take a box of each. If you can get them, Ill reimburse you and I'll make you something in return!

I'm looking for scrabble tiles too.  I just need a bag of them from an old scrabble game.  It doesn't have to be a complete set.

Thanks Georgia!

I paid like $10 for a small set a few years ago when we decided we wanted to play dominoes!!  We haven't played in a long time, so I've been thinking of using them to alter!!

How can you beat 2.00 each set.  I pd 25 for a set of designer custom ones in the 80s.   I have been to goodwill and 5 thrift stores and no dominos or scrable pieces at all.   I will check today at lunch and see what WM sells them for.

I've checked WM, they are too high. I won't buy a new set to alter (unless they're cheap), I'll look for old sets that are missing pieces to recycle. And why of all the game pieces my children have lost over the years did they not lose pieces to the dominoes or scrabble game??   KIDS!

Ok, they were here at valentines day, so in a couple weeks they will be back. I know they had white ones and black ones. I think they had a spinner on them. Does that matter?

Admitting to being lazy here…. I could read the entire thread and figure out what you need the domino's for, but , being lazy (as mentioned earlier) I am asking here.

What are you using the domino's for??

Here Shells…just for you…Jayne makes jewelry out of the dominos and scrabble tiles…and if you go out there and google that type of jewelry, you'll find more…I have some really cool magnets made out of dominos…done by stamping.

Jayne said:

I'm posting this here because while I made these while scrapbooking, and the two smaller ones used real photos, it's not really papercrafting.  I guess it's a crossover between papercrafting and jewelry.

We used dominos, mini dominos and scrabble tiles to make these three.  The large heart pendant is stamped with two colors of ink and 4 stamps.  I stamped the words in black first, but after I stamped the red hearts it looked like the black words were stamped after.  I hope you enjoy looking at them!

A spinner is a little metal "bump" in the center of the dots side. It makes it easy for those old men like my dad that sit waiting on their turn and spin the dominoes on the table.

I've never seen one like that! Hmmm!  I Don't think it would make a difference.  I don't use the dots side.

At WM here, Mesquite, Texas – they are 3,5,10 and 12 per set- white ones only and they are in tin boxes.  I am still looking at thrift stores, garage sales.  who knows.  Scrabble is very expensive for this project too.  I think the games are 15 – would hate to ruin a good game.

In addition to the sweaters at goodwill – i buy antiques and collectables too.  so far in the past few weeks this is what I have found:

Van Briggle creamer and sugar – bought for 3 and sold on internet for 40, made in 20-40

punch bowl set with massive tray, bowl, 13 cuts – bought for 20 and lits on internet at antique store for 300

urn shaped American Fostoria vase – bought for 4 and list on internet for 25-35

Rooseville basket vase – bought for 10 and cant find it on internet but know they can go for 150 up

candlewick flower bowl on pedestal with candle holder in middle – made in 40s-50s, bought for 3.00and list on ebay for 279.95.

Coors maroon dishes bought for 20.00 and when added up from internet sells – it will all sell for between 400-500.  made in the 30s.

I am thinking of doing an ebay site myself – love to shop thrift stores.

that would make a very good profit for you Jane!!  I went to the Goodwill in the bigger city and it's like they're closing their doors or something……it was very empty!!  or people are hopping on the bandwagon and selling things themselves instead of giving it to Goodwill!

I learned there are regional buyers for Goodwill and they all do it differently too.  Yesterday at one Goodwil, ( I live near 3) they were putting the 4.00 sweaters reduced to 2 on a rack to remove.  I said what?  they are on sale.  I looked through and found 2.  I said where are you taking them.  she said back to the warehouse and I said to do what and she did not know.  I do know if things dont sell here, the move them to another region of stores.  they are also buying up new stuff to put out bec I found some crafting supplies last year at only a few stores and all new.  I had no Idea.  when I went to one about a month ago it seemed pretty empty too.  I had wondered the same thing – are people having garage sales or what?  Now they are full.  There is the big Salvation Army one in Dallas I would love to go to but never have.  I would check back or call them.  I have never known one to close up.

When I still lived in California I shopped for glass at the Salvation Army on my way home from work. My husband would shake his head when I hauled in another box of glass – depression glass mainly – but I would tell him to just be glad I wasn't going to the department store and stocking up on shoes. Glass was cheaper. There was another Salvation Army store the other direction from my house, and I would stop there if I happened to be going by. The merchandise was TOTALLY different. The store in my neighborhood had all the regular stuff, but they had the depression glass, and the other one in a more working-class neighborhood had coffee mugs and drinking glasses. My neighborhood had designer jeans and prom dresses. Not the other store.

I got to know the people in charge of my store pretty well (I was there once a week or so – but I'm not obsessed…) They told me that they really did sort the merchandise and send it to the store where it would sell the best. Sometimes they guessed wrong and the same things they sent to "my" store and wouldn't sell were taken back and sorted and sent to other stores. It's just like neighborhood grocery stores. Some things just sell better in one area, and not at all in another.

The clothing and bedding that were donated  – when they should have been trashed and would never sell even in a thrift store because of tears or big stains – that cloth is bundled and sold by the pound to buyers that use it in making who knows what. Maybe shredded for stuffing? So nothing is wasted, it just trickles through the system until they squeeze every bit of good out of it.
