DH and I went to several family cemeteries yesterday to clean up the lots, plant flowers and pay our respects. It was a beautiful day. Today we put our flag out, and observed the moment of silence this afternoon.

Glad you posted your activity for Memorial Day.  My mom and I  visited 5 cemetaries.  I also took around 45 photos of headstones to include in my genealogical research.  I was pleased to see the grave of one of my great-great-grandmother's that I did not know about previously.

Then, the best thing that happened was my 84-year-old dad had the grandkids (8 y.o. boy; 6 y.o. boy and; 5 y.o. girl) stand at attention with their hands over hearts while he lowered his flag to half-staff.  A WW II vet and his 3 grandkids, all born after year 2000, saluting Old Glory – - priceless.  My mom took a picture.  I will try to post it if she e-mails it to me.

To all who have served – - THANK YOU!

CousinSheryl, that's a great idea to include gravestone pics with your genealogy info. I do that too. I also try to include the name and location of the cemetery. Some of the stones that I took pics of years ago have fallen down or are broken off now, so I'm glad I have the photos.

Looking forward to seeing the photo of your Dad and grandchildren!
