If you like seeing how country folk used to make do with hand made devices go here  http://journeytoforever.org/fa…..ces3b.html

Make sure you read about making cheese…you start with 12 gallon of milk!bug-eyed

Does anyone have any "old devices" that they still use today?

I use a hand chopper of my grandmother's when I chop, and her wooden bowl. I also use a hand can opener instead of electric. And I have my father's hoe, shovel, hand cultivator, garden rake, and pitchfork (that I use to turn compost).

I have a little old plow as a garden ornament that my brother gave me.

Remember, if it rains on your picnic it's also raining on your garden!

We use my Dad's rakes, hoes, and pitch fork (for turning compost).  We also have his old hand plow; thanks brookdale for the idea of using it for a garden ornament.  I also have my mother's cast iron grinder; a lot of good things were put through that one but I don't use it.  It is stored in a wooden box my father made for it when I was a small child.

Work like you don't need the money, love like you've never been hurt and dance like you do when no one is watching.

I have a wicked looking curved butcher knife and a crock that came from my husbands great aunt. I use them all the time.

My mother has a rolling pin that was hand carved for her great Aunt when her aunt was nine years old.

I have my grandmothers corner cupboard and her hand made quilt frames.

All of these things (except the butcher knife) are over 100 years old and are a part of our daily lives. They were made to last!

My friend has 4 or 5 sheds on her parents farm that contain just about everything from 3 generations.  I would love to get my hands on some of that stuff!

Don't cry because it's over—smile because it happened!

Oh JeannieB,

That would be heaven to me…to rummage through old things like that! I love looking at old things and trying to figure out what they were used for. Also I picture in my mind people of yesteryear using the old farm gadgets.

We had those sheds also when we bought our farm…and the seller left it for us to clean out.

Lots of stuff we could trow on the truck and bring to the landfill…but yes I also found some treasures.

Old telefoons, the wooden ones, I restored them, old sewing machine, old tools, oilcans etc.

I don't use them, but whatever I could I used to decorate my house, the old phone is hanging in the dining room…Hubby tried to make it work, that I could actually answer the phone with the old one, but it didn't work.

The oil cans are on my deck, the sewing machine I returned to the former former owner of our farm.

They sold the farm to their daugther and her husband, after the daugther died, the husband was quite nasty and never wanted to return her old sewing machine, so I did when I found out about it.

I also found another one, but with that one the actual machine and all the wood, was gone..I kept the cast iron legs though and made that into a little side table.

Old tools etc..also for decoration, in house and yard.

yes if you walk into my house you walk into the past…but thank goodness with a washer, dryer and dishwasher..oh and electric stove (but I do have a woodburning one) and my computer lol
