I love regional cookbooks and collected many of them.  I particularly liked the ones that include photos and stories about life in the region or family stories about how your grandmother made whatever recipe and won the country fair but never told the neighbor lady her secret ingredient.  You know the kind of cookbooks I mean, lots of stories and history as well as recipes!  I get a flavor of what it is like to live in oh, say West Virginia, on a farm, have your own cow and make cheese from your own milk. What it was like in the older days with some recipes from older relatives and neighbors.

I love her posting about moving into the "slanted little house" and the reaction of her suburban kids to the move.  I LOVE her pictures and recipes.  Certainly I'm a regular reader of her blog but it would be so nice if she wrote a cookbook.  Every gift store I go through when I travel seems to have a local cookbook or two so I think there is a market.  Certainly many of her readers would love to have their own copy and give the cookbook along with a loaf of grandmother's bread as a gift to a friend.

Let's try to talk her into doing this.  I'd love to be able to pass on to my grandkids some of the recipes, photos and postings.  It might turn into one of those beloved and spotted family cookbooks we cherish when we get them with notes in our mother or grandmother's writing about how we served this for the first time when the preacher came for dinner or always made this for someone's birthday, with cross-outs and upping of quantities of this or the other ingredient that someone or other didn't like or especially liked.  Love those family treasures.

I am in full agreement.  I would really like to have aq CITR cookbook to give to my daughters and grand-daughters.  What a legacy!  Come on Suzanne.  Need help?  I'm here to assist in any way.happy-feet

happy-flowerDuring the years I have been with CITR, I have printed off nearly all of her recipes that she posted, even before Farm Bell, and then when Farm Bell came to be, I copied many from there from members  as well— I have them in a folder, all I need is a pretty cover!

I emptied our printer ink just printing off all the recipes that I wanted to try since I have been on here.

One of my goals is to put together a family recipe scrapbook for kids and grandkids.

I collect cookbooks (much to DH disdain)shame-on-you and recipes from anywhere.  After I have tried a new one and got the test kitchen taster approval I put it into a computer software program because I am always lossing papers.  I make any notes , etc.  I have a lot of my mother's cookbooks and recipes with her notes.

I would buy a cook book…imagine that…I only have over a hundred!

A CitR cookbook would be a wonderful addition to my  kitchen library. It would make a wonderful gift for my daughters too!

Even if it is nothing more than one of those "fundraiser" cookbooks I want one.

My husbands family had one made"Recipes and Memories" with pictures and everything. It is very cherished.

Suzanne…you can do this!  You have all the recipes any cookbook would need and just think of the beautiful pictures! Throw in some of those wonderful postings and BINGO a best seller! Not to mention what a wonderful keepsake it would be for us CitR members.

DO IT!  DO IT!  DO IT!  shimmy  Not to put any pressure on or anything wink

I agree!  Ring binder, so she could update it every year or two, by writing additional pages which we could purchase and add to our String Town Rising Cookbooks!

Ohhhh Cathy what a good idea to add pages yes

If common sense were truly common, wouldn't there be more evidence of it?

I know I've read posts where Suzanne talked about making money through her website, how it is necessary, but makes her uncomfortable.

Well, this could be a great project.  Yes, it would be a fair chunk of work.  But I know I would spend $20 per copy (and I would buy 3 or 4) on a spiral ring cookbook (like everywhere's local church ladies cookbook).  And I'm sure many, many other readers would love to buy one or two or three….

If making that kind of money is not a comfortable thing to do, maybe consider using a portion of the profits to do some good.  A charity, or a community building gift.  Maybe a small scholarship for your local highschool (since we are all so proud of our children who do well academically).

Or even….what if it were a communal cookbook, so readers could submit as well, to take some of the work off Suzanne?  I don't know, I'm just throwing ideas out there.

I love the idea of a CITR cookbook.

I would definetly buy 1 for myself and probably 3 or 4 others for people I know.

(Not that we are trying to pressure you Suzanne chef)

I definetly like the idea of a ring binder you could add pages to, or at least the option to purchase it that way.

What if you could buy a year at a time? Or a "category" at a time?  And what if it was DIGITAL so there was no printing cost, or shipping responsibilities for Suzanne??

 Hmmmmm.

I want a hard copy, personally, lol.  I like to take my books down and pour over them and make little notes in some of them…. Maybe make two kinds.. digital and ring bound.  I worry that I may not have computer access one day….

I think this is a great idea! I already have a "CITR" cookbook of recipes from FB in a loose-leaf binder…It would be great to have them in a real cookbook.

In your "spare time", Suzanne? Huh? Please?

To be honest, I too save all the recipes I use on paper too, I only have a desktop and it doesn't fit on the kitchen counter!!  I print them out, and put them in page protectors in my own binder, so, in a way, I do have my own Stringtown Rising Farm Cookbook!… though it has a lot of my other favorite recipes in it too.

I paste them in word docs so I can enlarge the print, and sometimes put pictures on the page if I have any, though I always leave any sources on the page too. While it's unlikely I'd forget where any of the recipes from CitR come from, some of the less used recipes from other sites I could forget about and I may want to return to the sites.  Besides, it's only polite.

I will name my source also so that if I need to go back and check on something I can do it.  The other day I was working on something and was using a recipe from the computer and didn't see eggs in the ingredient list and I knew that the probably should have been there.

I like the MasterCook software program.  I can reduce or enlarge a recipe without using my math skills (which are not my best field).  It also lets you do menu planning and make a shopping list.

Sounds like a great idea!  I'd like to have the option to have digital or print.  I have well over 100 cookbooks (and my husband thinks I'm nuts..) but I'm finding that when I want to find a certain recipe or one for a particular ingredient I wind up looking online (like at CITR!!) because of the search capability.   If I had more "spare time"   hahahahahahaha  I might make myself a cross reference but we all know that isn't going to happen!!

I know what you mean JeresyMom.  My husband is that way with mine.  i also am finding that I tend to look online for a recipe instead of my books.

Thank you!  I have so many projects I want to tackle and I'm time-pressed.  But a cookbook–in more than one form–is definitely on my list!  I want one for me, too, LOL.  I put all my favorite recipes HERE and I never print anything because I'm tragically out of ink all the time.

I'm definitely working on several different book ideas, including a cookbook in several different options (including the uber-affordable "junior league" style).

Clover made me do it.
