I couldn't decide where to put this… canning? True, it's about something for canning jars, but so useful in so many other ways!  Crafts? Kitchen? Anywhere in the house really… Why hasn't someone else made these before!?!  If they did, maybe their time is just now come!

I backed it for a small amount, this kick start thing is apparently legit from what I've found about it, and this lady checks out too, as best as I can find out.

langela,

the photo didn't come thru for me either, but I went to kickstart.com and searched mason jar tops.  Very cool idea (especially the ones to come in the future)

…and then they bought the goat! :D

Woah, how cool is that?  Never would have thought of that myself.  Which is possibly why I haven't patented any cool inventions.  laugh

Well, I pledged so I should be getting some in January, I'll be sure to report how well they work.  She's planning on making them a silvery color to replicate the look of the old zinc screw tops.  I commented that I'd rather have them in the white or semi-clear material so they're easier to know they're clean when washing  etc.

I'm sure she's got the materials already set from what it says, but hopefully in the future there will be a choice in color.  She also said eventually she'll be making them for wide mouth jars too.  Sounds great to me!

Have you ever pledged before on something?  I'd like to get in on it but just a little wary…??

No, this is my first time, but I figure I can live with a $20 risk.  There are several reviews that claim it's a scam, but from what they say, it's a scam for the developer, not for the people who pledge.  The site takes a 5% cut of what they raise from the pledges.

I suppose if the individual is unethical, there's more risk, most of the reviews say that the developers aren't terribly well investigated by the kickstarter people, so yeah, it's a bit of a buyer beware thing.

it's partnered with Amazon, but not necessarily backed up them from what I could find out.  I'm guessing if they don't live up to their 'reward packages' I suppose they'll at least get banned from the site.

It was a choice I made, especially since she's already actually met her goal numbers, she said any additional money she makes will go towards additional production.  I just decided I wanted to risk it so I could get some of them early.

A google search on the developer shows a lot of hits about her that all lead me to think she's a real person who is at least somewhat reliable (sounding?) and there is an actual business plan and lots of the planning and set up is already in place.

It IS a great idea!  I will be looking for them.  Not to intentionally go off topic, when I was looking around the site, I ended up here…

feature=related

I couldn't help myself.  I hope you like it too!

That is a great one too GrammieEarth!  I got drawn off track quit a bit when I went there too so never fear!  There's all sorts of things that people are looking for funding with.  I don't quite understand why someone would pledge to some of them, but it takes all sorts I suppose.  I'd probably be interested in supporting some artistic things like this one in some cases.  I really like those pans displayed that way, and they really do represent a lot of hard work across this country, as well as a lot of good home cooking done on the cast iron pans all through the years!

They look like a good idea but I don't think that I would pay 4 dollars each for them.

What a great idea! Now if only they weren't plastic… guess that's probably too much to ask. ;)

Yeah, it's true that it winds up being expensive Ross, but in this case, I do feel like I'm investing in an idea/project.  I also know that I'm paying to get them early because even if they do go into production, there can be a lot of slips between the day they're made and getting them out to the general public.

I hope to find them on the shelves of a local store for a lot less some day, but it's also possible that they'll take 2 years (or more?…maybe less.) to get out there and this way I will have mine in my hot little hand.

Could I afford to do this sort of thing every day?  Nope. Not even once a month but maybe once a year because it pleases me to support this one project this one time!  And…. I wanted them! laugh

I, too, pledged.  I would love to see them the color of my blue ball jars!  And, $20 can be spared for a one-time shot.  I think I could spend more on magazine subscriptions and get less out of the magazines.
