What a great idea! Now if only they weren't plastic… guess that's probably too much to ask. ;)

I know what you mean Mary, but I don't mind plastic for some things.  Things that can be used over and over, and as long as it's BPA free.  In this case, using these will mean using less plastic containers of other kinds and allowing me to use my canning jars as storage with more ease and more versatility.  In this case, I think it's a very fair trade.  I don't see how any other material would be as good really.

Metal would fatigue and fail more quickly than will the plastic.  As long as you don't store liquid whatever additives are in the plasic won't be a concern.

Ball already makes plain plastic lids for storage  but without a pour spout.

The green parmesan cheese lid will fit on a mason or ball fruit jar. You can pour or sprinkle/shake with it. Not sure about the BPA in it though. I love them.

Mamafox, glad to hear about the shaker  jar lids.  I have some and will try it.  How you doing?  Glad to see you back on here.

Oh…now I have to check out the parm cheese lids!

And, Mary, I thought exactly the same thing when I first saw them.

Well, I don't much use the cheese in those, but I'll definitely search for some.

As long as the food isn't in contact for long or you don't heat food while it's in contact, I doubt it will harm us all things considered.  Great tip MomaFox!! Thanks!

OK – am finally seeing that the green parm lids y'all are talking about must come on a commercial product?  Duh!   laugh

Pete,

The brand I use is Kraft and it is in the refrigerated section, usually with the other cheeses.

They do fit.  The problem with them is that they leak just like the plastic lids that were created for the canning jars.  surprised

The idea of the "new invention" lid was to create a lid that won't leak so that after you put your stuff in them – like salad dressing – you'll be able to shake it up, turn it upside down, etc. without the lid leaking.

Hope she comes up with a good seal!  I'm ready for that!  happy-flower

Thanks, momma!  Have probably seen them, but it didn't register in the old brain.

With the plastic lids, what we do for those jars that we really use for long term storage (so that they are fairly air tight) is put one of those red rubber rings on the jar on the lip of the jar.  The plastic lid seats on that quite well when it's screwed on.  Well enough for things like nuts and pasta, for sure.

Now I'm wanting one of those green lids, and probably the container as well, for sprinkling baking soda!  I keep some now in very cute ceramic cheese shakers.  Adorable enough to sit out, but some days they seem VERY heavy.

Hate to be a downer but this needs shared. A fellow WV Chicken Sister messaged me on FB and said she backed the product for $10 and has since had a charge appear on her account from a magazine company that she did NOT make any purchase from. She contacted her bank and they think it stems from the Kickstarter 'purchase' she made. She hasn't used her card for anything else for days. She made her purchase via Amazon the same as I did. I am monitoring my account now closely. Seems the issue might be that there is a spot that says "do you agree to the terms and conditions". It was already checked when she hit that page. So there may be some scamming going on. Beware. Disappointing.

GAH!!!  Going to go check my stuff now!  I'm going to be so upset, and I feel bad if I've led anyone to something iffy!  Should have at least noticed it if it's a check box issue and warned people though.  I'm real sorry if anyone has issues with this. no

Deb, this is not your fault if it's an issue! – we're all vulnerable when it comes to such things – looked and felt fine to me and there's not solid proof that it's a scam orchestrated by Kickstarter just yet. I just wanted everyone to watch their accounts since one person is having a problem that looks like it's related to her interaction with them. I've gotten 2 emails from Kickstarter since I pledged and one said the charge will go through on the 8th so I am going to watch and see what happens.

well, still it bothers me.  I might have unchecked such a box without making a real note of it because I tend to watch out for that stuff, but in this case I really should have noticed and warned ya'll if it was there. Lesson learned I guess.

I checked on my account and at amazon as far as purchases and such, I'm not seeing anything odd.  I got the same e-mails from kickstarter, (I believe, one saying they'd charge on the 8th, the next about an update when the designer made one)

Pokey hasn't had a baby yet has she? Do we still think she's pregnant? Sorry, that was random! I should have found a better place to put it!

Ah yes it is a random post stacylee, but you obviously haven't seen the wiener blog post!  (just being able to type that makes a misplaced post topic SO worth it!)

You need to read THIS
