I watched my 3 granddaughters all day.  We went to the library and got books to read.  I juiced some sand plums for jelly (had enough for 1 batch of jelly).

Plan for the day…weed my garden, seems those weeds always grow faster then the veggies.

Yesterday I filled my hothouse, garden season is in full swing.

They are a plum about the size of cherries (red when ripened) with a pit. They grow wild in Ks, Ok, Tx (maybe in southern Mo?).  There is probably a scientific name for them but we know them as sand plums or sand hill plums.  They make a delicious jelly. They grow wild (for the most part) in sandy type soil along roadsides and in pastures.  A lot of farmers think of them as a nusicence(sp) plant and spray them to get rid of them.  Because of the drought and extreme heat last year and a hard freeze in the spring there were none to be had.

Today I loaded up some more cookbooks and donated them to the library.

I am going to make some jam today…. and continue to downsize my cookbook stash!warrior

Thanks mamajhk….I was curious as to what they looked like so googled "sand plums", showed some nice images. I've never seen those in Missouri.

Nancy and I went sailing and this is where we spent the night: http://i1112.photobucket.com/albums/k482/nansssor/not%20food/2012_06160001.jpg

We watched the sun set:http://i1112.photobucket.com/albums/k482/nansssor/not%20food/2012_06160017.jpghttp://i1112.photobucket.com/albums/k482/nansssor/not%20food/2012_06160026.jpg

And we stayed away from here. This is a very popular place for people with kids.

Today I managed to completely avoid getting started on any packing or sorting toward our return overseas which is scheduled to take place in less than 3 weeks. I did buy a new mop and we finally got the 60? year old tub in this house looking clean, thanks to Magic Eraser. Oh yeah, mopped the bathroom and kitchen floors.

Get packing woman! no

Today I helped my sister tape one wall in her dining room so she can paint it stripes.  Ran out of tape and time before we got it all done. Tonight I have set and read my great grandmother's "day journal" which is really interesting and gives an insight into her & her family's life in the 30's and 40's.  Some of her journals are missing from earlier but they were known to have existed.  The last entry is in 1941.  It is bedtime.

We spent much of the day moving some of the furniture in the master bedroom, trying ti get ready to paint, no turning back now. I have been putting it off for a few years now. It will take several days but the end result will be worth it……….I hope.happy-flower

Today is the tomorrow you worried about yesterday.

I have been putting it off too long, so I finally dug in and started to defrost the big upright freezer. The owner's manual says to defrost when there is 1/2 inch of ice build up. Check. There definitely is at least 1/2 inch of ice build up. I don't know why I hate this job so much. It is not hard. And it can be amusing to watch the cat stalk the ice chunks that fall out and slide on the floor. It is not so amusing to pull said cat out of the freezer umpteen times, he leaves cat hair everywhere! But any way, that is what I am doing today. Me and my helper, Squeegee.

After you finish with your freezer you could head out this way and do mine! It's a mess! And yes I hate to defrost that upright freezer. Maybe I can convince whiphubby that he has a job to do.

Miss Judy, I do appreciate your kind offer to defrost your freezer for you, but I must respectfully decline. My cat, Squeeqee, is elderly (he is 16 and a diabetic) and he prefers not to travel in the heat  of the summer. And I just can't defrost a freezer without his furry help. Maybe when the weather is cooler he will be inclined to travel again, and we will take care of that old freezer for you then.

Learning to cook!  No, really. Learning to cook with the brand new stove. (The old stove finally bit the dust…I've been w/o nearly 2 months.) Problem is, the new and improved stove has options and feature non existent on my formerly reliable old stove. Super burners (?) simmer burners,  and a new knob-to-burner configuration. Edge to edge grates so pots are supposedly easy to move from here to there on stove surface. So far, I've burnt half of what I've cooked and the other half took nearly 2x as long as it should have.

Sounds like the new stove I got. I have scorched a few things but…IT DOES WONDERFULLY WHEN PRESSURE CANNING! I love my new gas range!

Bonita, I know just what you are talking about. When we replaced our stove a few years back, it seemd like each burner knob had a different function, I just ignore that and adjust the flame the way I always did. The one that is labeled simmer, is nice for slow cooking. The extra grates that cover the middle are nice for shifting larger pots, especially  for those of us that are older.

Today is the tomorrow you worried about yesterday.

I accidentally (!) swore at my new stove and its convoluted buttons and bells. In sympathy with the stove, my computer printer decided to print erratically. So, now I'm fencing with tech support on how to remove and clean the printer's print head. SHHHH it's a secret, otherwise the refrigerator will revolt!

Spent a few hours in the ER today.  Dick's elderly sister (92 years old) was unresponsive this morning and was brought to the ER from assisted living.  After many tests it was found she had a UTI and was started on IVs.  By the time she was discharged she was coherent, feeling much better but tired.  A UTI in the elderly seems to throw their whole system off.  Thank God nothing serious was found.  Those early morning phone calls certainly throw you into a panic.

I took the day off from packing went for a pedicure. Then, girls lunch at Neiman Marcus downtown, shopping for a few odds and ends with one of the girls and a haircut in the afternoon. The lunch was a great diversion and I'm so glad my friend set it all up. Saying good-bye is awful and packing is hard work. I needed this day. True friends are a real treasure.hug
