Went to the Flea Market this morning. Found an old white coffee pot for the top of the woodstove and one of those glass juicer things ….the kind you put half a lemon or orange on and push back and forth.
It's a reamer
Love those things. Don't use them much but love em LOL.
Dede
in WV where citrus isn't – well, not in affordable juicing quantity
Is that what that's called???? I didn't know that! Thanks Dede…I'll remember that from now on. I used to have my Grandmothers but lost it somewhere along the way. This one is pretty close to hers and that's why I bought it. We don't have citrus tree's around here…at least not that I know of…but at least if I need to juice a lemon or orange…I'm ready!

I need to go to the grocery store today. I really hate going!
I need to get sandwich makings for Davids lunch for the rest of the week.
On my counter is a 10 pound bag of huge naval oranges that I bought Sunday at Sam's. They are big, juicy and sweet. Usually I can find someone selling them on side the road from the back of a truck but so far I haven't seen anyone doing that yet.
I have a recipe for Orange Pound Cake that these oranges are perfect for!!!

Today I am cleaning, cleaning, and cleaning! Why, you may ask? Because my Mom is coming tomorrow!! I love my Mom! We saw my parents Labor Day weekend, but over the last year I haven't had much time one on one with my Mom. Dad is going to Florida with some of his siblings to visit their other brother, so I asked if Mom could come here. I'll meet Dad half way to pick up Mom. She's staying until next Wednesday! No major plans, just play games and talk, talk, talk!

Orange pound cake sounds delicious! Are you going to share the recipe? I just picked up a bag of oranges yesterday.
Mom is excited. We've had the flu (Swine it is assumed) and I had warned her that it might not be best to come. Well we've been fever free since yesterday morning, so I called her this morning. She told me that she had already decided to come, even if the last sick child was running a low grade fever.
I will definitely enjoy our time together. Yesterday I planned our menu and included some of her favorites that she doesn't fix for herself. We're also stop to eat out on our way home tomorrow. The kids are very excited about that. Now I'm off to prepare for my Mama!

I just posted the recipe that the Barefoot Contessa makes. It is soooo good.
I have a specila little old lady friend that I make these for off and on all year long. I make it in a 8 1/2 X 4 1/2 loaf pan and this little 78 year old petite lady sits and eats about half of that loaf as soon as I take it over to her. She loves this cake so much and looks forward to when I make her one. I know she is eager for one right now and knows she will have one soon…LOL

Sarah have fun with your Mom….you're so lucky to have her around to enjoy when you can. I lost mine in 83 and I have 5 children but they are nearly 2.000 miles away so don't get to see them often. Once a year if I'm lucky. So enjoy your time with her take lots of pictures and make some great memories!
Deb…that Orange Pound Cake sound delicious! Think I'll look that recipe up and buy some oranges today… thanks for the idea! (fork this time!)

It's 'grocery day' today so we'll be heading off the farm into civilization this afternoon. It's great to get out for a bit but even better to get back home. Not that putting all that stuff away is fun but at least you know you won't have to leave the farm again for food for another week or so. I like my home and my farm! (pitchfork!)

All this talk of canning. I must be missing a very addictive and fun activity. I remember my Mom canning all summer long from our huge acre garden. Actually Daddy's garden was about an acre and a half and Mama canned almost all of what we didn't eat.
I need to discover the fun of canning. I saw a canner in Wal-mart, perhaps I need to look deeper into the jobs of canning. I have my Grandmothers canner. It must be almost a 100 years old…LOL Mama did tell me that it needed a new seal or perhaps a gasket. It is huge. Grandmother canned everything at 15 pounds even cow milk.
So….today I may look on line for canners. I might dig down deep in the garage stacked high with boxes from Mama's house until I find that canner and look at it really good.

Great, Deb! It can be soooo much fun. Tiring sometimes, of course, but it is so nice to know exactly what's in the food you take off the shelf!
Pssst. We got another one talking about it. That's the first step…
