I had such a nice day.  Walked the dogs to a local coffee shop and we sat outside and visited with everyone who came by….. then we sauntered home.  People think Monty walks me but I tell you, that boy has to sniff and look at everything, loves to smell flowers, chased a butterfly …. funny boy.

Then I went berry picking … so I have strawberries, blue berries and raspberries mmmmmmmmmmmm

Been a very busy day!  Did some weeding, then to the dentist to finally get the correct crown (the original fell out in December – by the time life quit intervening, it took two remakes to get a proper fit), stopped by the market for a celebratory Ellen's (a local hand made operation) java & oreo ice cream cone, was gifted a plant from my plant guy, bought some veggies, went home, chilled out, after it cooled went out to weed some more and plant the new green stuff.

Now, you've got to see this thing some time!  Never heard of it before, but it is a "Cerveza 'n Lime" Plectranthus!  It doesn't bloom, but has extremely fragrant fuzzy leaves.  (OK – guess what they smell like!)  It turns out that it is in the same family with what I grew up knowing as "Swedish Ivy," a house plant.  This plant is drought tolerant, heat tolerant, and deer resistant – perfect for the edge of my garden.  It is now planted, doing it's thing.

In honor of the new plant, I had to finally put down the fresh brewed sun tea and tip one of those cervezas myself, sans the lime…

The storms have blown through, perfect time to storm — during the night — so we're going outside today puttering around the yard doing some perfecting.  And laundry today hanging outside on the line Yes

I've also got some bread drying with italian seasonings to make some italian bread crumbs

Had my coffee in the hot tub to try to minimize the kinks in my neck from sitting at a computer all week.  Now I am going to go work in the yard before the sun comes up.  112 degrees here yesterday and expecting the same today so I need to get out there pronto!

Then cooking, baking, shopping, playing with Grandson's.  I'm so looking forward to an unscheduled but productive day that just takes its own course.  Here's hoping!

Our herd manager is away on his winter break sol I spent the morning helping shift the stock (dairy cows) shift electric fences and run (slip and slide) up and down the very muddy hillsides trying to convince the cows to leave the paddocks and stop ruining them by chargeing around pugging the ground up and killing what grass is there. Now I have aching shoulders and sore legs as I am rather out of practice at chasing stock on slippery hillsides in gumboots.   Carrying the newborn  jersey calf up out of the paddock in the raging freezing wind probably didn't help either.  Now I am by the fire having a lovely cup of tea.

Continuing with some outside projects today……started what looked like a simple, fast project yesterday and it has transformed into more than I really want to do, but now I have to finish it, none of those teenage boys ever seem to turn up when I need them most!  Laugh  So I am waiting for it to warm up a little, then carry on Happy Feet

Around here, it's a lazy day.  Overcast, a bit of fog, more rain anticipated.  Still hovering around 70 degrees.  May do some laundry.  And hope it stays cool enough to bake a meat pie!  May spend the rest of the day with a book.  (Yesterday was a bit too much, so today needs to be truly a day of rest.)

I'm going to clean out and organize the kitchen today.  There's no telling what kind of exciting (or questionable) stuff I might find in there!  My husband built me some extra shelves in the pantry yesterday to make extra room for all the food I am planning to can, and that made me want to reorganize the whole kitchen.

My husband is home, but he stays out of it.  Haha  I just found some cookies in there that expired April of 2007.  I don't know how I missed those the last time I cleaned it out!

Surprise!  This was not at all how I planned to spend my day, but one of our ewes had a different idea.  Meet our newest ram-lamb, born this morning.  He weighs over 11 pounds.  His mother had twin lambs back in January, but lost both for different reasons.  Until she started to look very fat recently it didn't even occur to me she could be pregnant.  Obviously she was.  Since she didn't nurse lambs she came back into season shortly after, and five months later — she's a mother again.

She gave birth on her own, and cleaned him up, but he's a tired little one so he's taking a breather in the house where we can make sure he's getting colostrum (the first thing a new one needs) and enough fluids before he goes back outside to be with mom.  She's not the "motherly" type, so he needs to be a little more perky before he can get in there and nurse.

The guys are working on our fences today.  No more ewe/ram fraternization!  (We may even have one more pregnant….) I'm such a bad mother.  I never ground them when they break curfew.  Maybe if I were more strict.

Surprise!! Surprise!!  Oh I hope this one makes it, Kathy!  Did the animals think you were getting all caught up on your work, so they had to throw one more at you? Laugh  Conspiracies on your farm, too!

I think that adage 'watch what you pray for' applies here.  For months we have wanted to find someone to fence our pastures.  We have the poles, the wire, but not the experience to do it ourselves.  First we found one crew of two.  Two days later another crew of two became available.  Today the second crew brought the cousin of one of the guys.  The step-father of the last guy has a tractor to spread the lime sitting in a pile on the side of our pasture.  The cousin is also a carpenter — and I have projects, like reconfiguring the stalls in the barn to accomodate sheep and goats instead of cows, that will keep him busy until fall.  I am so blessed!

Believe it or not – I've been sitting on the back porch blowing on a bugle!  It just needed to be done.  Right now.  There are some dogs in the neighborhood who might disagree…

No, we are not quite ready for prime time, so don't inquire about hiring the bugler!  But when the bugle was dragged in here from a flea market (because I didn't have one, and it was thought that I should have one.  Doesn't everyone?) several months ago, it did occur that I had never blown one, and maybe it should have been on the list of things to do after all.

Now, I'd kind of like to get good enough at it to play taps over my Dad's grave some day.  The cemetery is way out in the country, so it wouldn't have to be done very well.

The closest neighbors are at work, so the noise is not disturbing them.  If someone could just get these dogs to howl on pitch it would be very nice.  Maybe it would help if the bugler progressed beyond the fog horn stage…
