OfflineThis is the kind of thing we face in the subs:

And here's a pic of the offending veggie garden:

I just posted this to my fb page. One word. Outrageous!!!!! Oak Park needs to take a lesson from Seattle, whole companies out there specialize in installing gardens as landscape, many of which are used to grow for soup kitchens and food banks.
With Oak Park's strained budget issues, and I'm sure other REAL crime, makes you wonder who lives in the neighbor to have sicced this pitbull of a prosecutor on this sweet family.

That is just plain crazy! How is a garden offensive?
I guess because the owners aren't sheeple…they decided to do things differently after having to rip up all that grass. Funny, cuz they do still have "lawn", just not as much. And I hate to admity it but it looks waaayyy much better than any gardens I've ever had!

OfflineI read this on some news site, either Drudge or Phantoms and Monsters, either way…LOL! I'd say I couldn't believe it but we went through some goofy issues, last year with painting and the year before with a simple square-foot-ish bed in the front yard. And we are, by no means, in the part of town with the Home Owners Associations.
Here is a link to a petition, if anyone is interested. http://www.thepetitionsite.com…..s-veggies/ . I did sign, but so far it hasn't shown up on the list. I don't know if I should try again or not.
I just find this so ironic, while The First Lady is encouraging everyone to grow home gardens, there are people running around raising Cain about it. Most likely the very people who voted for this President.

OfflineI think this all boils down to what each of us finds pleasing to look at. My Grandmother had a "English" style of garden for her flowers and shrubs. I thought it was beautiful, my uncle called it a jungle!
Some cities and small towns have a problem determining what the "yard police" are supposed to be looking for.
I say live and let live…and we have to eat to live so…bring on the veggies!
Well, I'm going to agree with Miss Judy … I'll take the English garden aspect any day over formal rows of flowers. Give me the jungle over the fussy estate and it is nobody's business how anyone approaches their own yard if they're keeping it weed-free (even weeds are a subjective choice!). I do find the whole blowup over the raised beds in MI ridiculously heavy-handed considering how tidy the front yard looks … we have several in my neighborhood that are growing veggie gardens, with one very small yard pushing the veggies into the side yard open to the street. It is not tidy in arrangement but no one minds and happily, the city code enforcer isn't making comment. I and several others would roll up our sleeves for battle if there was a citation here ….. there should be a limit and reason behind govt interference concerning individual property. Strewn car parts, broken furniture looks like trash and is isolating … tidy raised beds bring neighbor interaction. Hmmm, good and bad … a busybody had to complain to get the ball rolling in MI.

OfflineThere's a Facebook page for this too.
It just makes me so mad that cities like Brooklyn, Manhattan, Seattle, Los Angeles, etc., are savvy enough to allow front yard vegetable gardens and chickens, and Michigan is so far behind. I want chickens! And I want to put my veggies where I want them! not that I'd put them in my front yard because it's all shade, but that's not the point. lol

OnlineI posted : The world has gone mad when they make rules against growing food on your land. During world war two they encouraged people to plant victory gardens to suppliment the food they could get in the market. The single most wasteful thing we can do is plant and fertilize grass and cut it to no benefit for man nor beast.
What manner of fool would object to a person planting food on his own land.

Offlinerileysmom: This isn't me, this is a woman near us in Oak Park. I guess I should have made that more clear. lol
There's a man in British Columbia who's facing a similar problem. And he has 2 1/2 acres and so do his neighbors! Why they would complain I do not understand.

I sent an email to Mr. Rulkowski. I am sitting here in shock, this is a homeowner that they are tormenting, they should be ashamed of themselves.
