I have been thinking about getting a worm composter. Just wondering if anyone else has one and what type you have a store bought or homemade? They look really easy to make yourself. Thanks!!!

Hubby went through a phase where he grew his own fishing worms. After buying a kit for it, it became obvious very quickly that it would have been much more economical to have done it himself from scratch! Fortunately for me, unfortunately fo ryou, I didn't pay much attention to what he was doing, but it WAS very easy. We even had a very old but still functioning refrigerator in which to store the entire operation, though I don't remember why that was necessary. (It's been about 15 years or so since he did this so the memory of details has pretty much faded.)

Try this idea here. It was the one I was looking at when I had curious surge in earthworms in the garden this year … evidently they really liked the compost we stirred in! My only drawback is finding a place to keep the 'farm' so the poor things won't fry. No place inside the house … the cats would wig out … and I'm hesitating to keep in the garage due to our summer heat …… always something!
Good luck!

HELLO–I use the shredded paper from my paper shredder and work it into the soil, the worms seem to like it, I have had more earth worms than ever the last two years. it keeps the soil nice and loose and it will compost naturally.

Hello, AndreaB! You may want to consider this to start with…http://familyfun.go.com/crafts…..rm-710731/. We tried this a couple of summers ago….thought it would be a great experiment for my son and good for the garden. The heat was an issue for us…I tried to keep it on the screened porch, but it was just too hot here. We noticed that the worms were drying up so we ended up just dumping the whole thing in the compost bin….I'm sure the worms fared better there. Good luck!
