OfflineSo here's my dilemma. I am driving cross-country (+/- 1500 mi. one way) to come to the Retreat. Like many of you, my shampoo of choice is simple baking soda. It is very possible, even probable, that on my journey across the nation, I will come into contact with members of law enforcement. All legal issues aside, I have visions of a trooper searching my car, and coming up with a plastic baggie/container/whatever filled with mysterious white powder. I don't want to transport a whole box, but I'm afraid to transport it in anything smaller or unmarked! And I don't want to have to go to a store everyplace I spend the night and get a whole box of the stuff. Ideas? Suggestions?
P.S. This is somewhat tongue in cheek, but it is something I think about!!!

Just include a packet of yeast (that's small), a mini-box of baking powder (Walmart now carries the Rumford brand in a tiny can), and then tell them you never leave home without your leveners!
LMAO That's freaking perfect!

OfflineAfter laughing, partly because it's just sooo funny, then laughing some more because I don't carry the powder around – mine is in a jar mixed with water.
But, I used to carry vitamins around in individual packs when traveling (ever had one of the week-at-a-time dispensers open inside your luggage?) until it became impossible to buy them anywhere except one of those places that sells drug paraphrenalia! A local pharmacist's helper explained to me to go in and ask for "dime bags." Really???

OfflineLOL!! Reminds of the time I went to Aruba with my step-mother. I did not think at the time, but I love to put dead sea salts in my bath water. Well, I did pack up a baggie full of fine salt and packed it into my suitcase. On the flight down, I began to wonder if that bag full of white stuff would look funny on a scan….Well, if my bag was searched, at least they put everything back in neatly that time around.
Anyway, your thoughts of taking along baking soda made me laugh MrsFuzz….and believe me, I had the same thoughts as you, but was just going to go with the idea of what ever may happen, I will figure up a solution. I will see you at the retreat, and be careful on the drive over!!

OfflineMrs. Fuzz, wouldn't it test negative in the field test? Can you cut the front off the box and place it in the bag with the baking soda?
My dilemma is never having taken a vacation by myself before. I'm very scared and nervous about the journey. I'm very excited at the same time. I have to find a place to stay between here and the CITR Retreat. Once I get to the retreat safely, I'll be fine (I think). I better be! I've done nothing but talk about this for months! Just hope I don't "chicken" out!

OfflineOh yeah, Cindyjo. It would test negative. Unfortunately, lots of places (I work for a major metropolitan police department, and we don't have them) don't have field tests. I really have no desire to wait in jail over a few days waiting for the results of a presumptive screening. lol That is a good idea about the front of the box, though. I flew to Canada last year, and originally packaged several "single use" packets out of saran wrap and ziploc bags, but after looking at it packaged in neat little bindles, decided that was REALLY not a good idea. I bought baking soda at my destination instead. lol
Pete-What sort of dilution rate do you use when you do that? That may be a good option for me. I could further dilute it when I clean up wherever I am.
Glad to give you all a chuckle–I figured you would find the same humor in it that I did. I can't wait to finally meet all of you, and it's only a few days away!! Eeeeeeeeeeee!

OfflineHaving worked in law enforcement (many many years ago) I can definitely relate to your dilemna, Mrs. Fuzz. Thanks for the chuckle.![]()
I can also related to your situation Cincyjojo because I, too, have traveled by myself and through some major cities for work. While it can be scary, I now can say "I did it. I traveled across the country by myself" Have faith in yourself. ![]()
Hope everyone has a good time at the retreat. It sounds like a good time.

OfflineMrsFuzz, I use a TBS baking soda in 8 oz water. I just put the soda in an old squeeze bottle (think this one was from honey?) then add the water, give it a shake and the bottle stays in the shower. The small (9.5 oz) Starbuck's bottle is the right size for it, but I prefer the squeeze bottle so I can sort of direct where it goes. The vinegar/water solution is in one of those Starbuck's bottles simply because I have a bazillion of them.
Maybe just mix some up in old water bottles? After being mixed, it is pretty much clear. That way after use the bottles could just be tossed along the way? Or refill the squeeze bottle. Or something.
But just in case, do we need to have bail money collected to wire to you???

OfflineMrsFuzz if you need bail money let me know I can send a few bucks to help out! Thanks for a good chuckle this morning from you and all the others. Please have a safe trip and watch out for the cops!! Have a great time. Wish I was going with you. ![]()

OnlineWell, I have to say I'd be happy to spring for a big box to have on hand for anyone to use so no one needs to risk the danger of being pulled over by an overly zealous ST on the trip in. It's well worth the cost of it to pay for the enjoyment that this thread has given us all!! ![]()

OnlineOh, and cincyjojo!!! You can do it!
You won't believe how freeing it is to drive down the road past the landmarks you usually never see beyond (alone). Now, I'm not saying it's what I want to do all the time, but every now and then, this sort of thing will give you a little thrill once you get all prepared and have everything you expect to need ready at hand and you hit the road!
That little thrill is good for us every now and then!

OfflineHmmm. This whole thing reminds me to be kinda careful about packing. With the pans and pots and cookers that will be in my car…
It might look a bit like I've been involved in the great crockpot heist! Or raided a kitchen supply store.
Oh, well. Generally, I don't give anyone a reason to pull me over – but the last time WAS when my car was loaded!
