OfflineThe drinking lots of water is my best all around health AND beauty secret! (Not so sure that it really has solved the beauty issue, but the skin at least is healthier this way!)
In the past few years I have been trying to be more diligent about a skin care regimen. The skin feels soooo much better when I do. When it feels better, I feel better somehow. Unfortunately, I have not gotten to the natural and home made products for this yet and would love to hear everyone's Instead-of-the-Expensive stuff solutions.

OfflineI use no cleanser of any kind on my face anymore, just a washcloth wrung out in hot water rubbed over my face morning and night, or while in the shower/tub. The only time I'd use a cleanser, which would be soap and water, any more is if I'd been wearing makeup, which isn't often these days. But the hot water/washcloth routine keeps my skin soft and clear…no blemishes ever, and I use to get them before. As for my hair, I just use homemade soap, or Kirk's Castile Soap on it, and then a half and half vinegar/water mix to rinse. I don't need conditioner afterward. Other than that, eat well, get enough sleep, take some Fish Oil for the Omega 3s and DHA, take lots of Vitamin C and E, and Iodine, eat saturated fats (butter and coconut oil) and lots of cholesterol (lots of eggs). I kid you not about those last two. I am 53 years old, have almost no wrinkles (just a little crepeyness around my eyes) and zero lines in my face. People routinely mistake me for someone nearly 20 years younger. I don't like useing mass market beauty nostrums because they are loaded with preservatives that are really nasty stuff, and the scents and colors are no good for you either…they are absorbed into the skin and from there into your blood stream. The preservatives are absorbed, too, of course. If I want to use an exfolient, I use a mix of either 2oz vinegar to 6oz water (vinegar is an alpha-hydroxy acid), or citric acid (1 tsp in 16 oz water). That's it. But for makeup, I highly recommend Bare Minerals…I lurve that stuff!

OfflineI want to try the honey/lemon juice face wash. Do you mix that up ea time or can you fix a bottle of it?I have lemon juice and will pick up the honey when I go to the store….anxious to try that! My daughters complexion is broke out badly now that she's pregnant again, I would like her to try this before going to the dermatologist!
Also like the vinegar rinse idea for softness is that the brown or the white vinegar? Also remember hearing you can use lemon rinse for blondes. You can also deep moisturize your hair with mayonaise wrapped in plastic or a towel, then shampoo.
You can also rub an ice cube over your face to tighten up the pores!

OfflineIt doesn't matter to me which vinegar I use…whatever is on sale, I guess
. You know what made my pores smaller? Taking Vitamin B-2 (Riboflavin). I found out empirically, but I later read that enlarged pores can be caused by a Riboflavin deficiency. I like the lemon juice idea…I am more or less blonde, and Walmart sells big bottles of their own brand of bottled lemon juice. I like a chamomile rinse every once in awhile, too.
Oh, and if my skin gets a little dry, like during the winter, I use Jojoba oil with a few drops of Lavender EO and Blue Chamomile EO in it. The two oils together smell like a meadow in summer. I also planted some soapwort this past summer. I hope to be able to harvest enough next year so that I can use it to wash my hair.

OfflineI must admit that I don't use much soap or cleanser either! I wash my face in the evening with a SMALL amount of soap. I don't scrub or overdo it though and I rinse it very well. In the morning, I just use hot water on the washcloth and then some lotion with sunscreen if I'm going to be outside. I get whatever is on sale, oil of olay is good if I can get it on sale. I don't use the very cheapest, but I don't use the very most expensive either. I used to use Lancôme Bienfait Total moisturizer because it was so light. That's discontinued now but even if they still made it, it's too expensive for me these days. I used to be able to get it on base where the prices were a little cheaper (and no tax), and also when I had a better income. Now that my income is much, much smaller, I don't use it anymore.
Oh well! ![]()
That's about all I do, oh I use inexpensive shampoo and I also do the cider vinegar rinse to combat our hard well water.

OfflineI'm very bad at taking care of myself.
Wash face with water, put some nivea daycream for dry skin on in the morning.
Nothing on it at night.
I don't have rimples,(except fine ones around my eyes) the few(50??) extra pounds om my body and face take the credit for that
We eat fresh veggies and fruit..no extra vitamines…told you I'm bad.
Never any make up either…but my cheeks are always red…some say it looks "fresh" I don't like it, but that is the way I come.

I'm finding I need hand lotion already this season. Will need to pull out the chapstick soon! I use the shea and coca butter baby lotion for body after showering.

OfflineLeah, that's a good idea, especially for the winter dry season!
I no longer use a conditioner. I use a rinse made of 1 part white vinegar to 3 parts water. I keep it in a bottle in the shower (or could use a spray bottle), pour a little amount on hair and massage through. Rinse well. Your hair WILL NOT smell like vinegar. It leaves it tangle free (I have shoulder length, curly hair), soft, and no build up from conditioner.
There are many recipes for a homemade shampoo……I've tried all of them that I have seen, but I can't come up with one that will work on my hair.

OfflineWhat WONDERFUL ideas you girls have!!!! I'm going to make up the lemon and honey as soon as I send this off and I think it was pete who had the link to tipnuts…..thanks for sharing that!!!! I love the idea of making our own beauty products…self sufficiency is what most of us are aiming for right?! I am soon to be 57 and my hair is what everyone tells me a shiny silver white. I've had people come up to me in the YMCA and tell me they like my hair…and I can't tell you what a good feeling that is especially when I sometimes wrangle with the idea of dying it again. I got sick of the skunk stripe at my part line that I had to keep hiding so I just decided to get it frosted…then finally after a couple of years of that I let the grey/white take over. Sometimes I see myself and I think 'hey not bad' …..other times I see my reflection and go 'that can't be me…I'm not that old!'. My husband LOVES the colour and tells me he doesn't want me to change it…he says it's 'sexy' LOL…ya ya what ever. I'll have to see if there are any concotions for my colour hair on 'tipnuts'…but it better not have bluing in it!!!!!!!!!!
