Cindy P - Soap Question

You are going to be bombarded by people asking soap questions now, you know…..

I got a steam juicer and some apples to juice.  Then I'm going to make applesauce from the pulp, and THEN I'm going to dehydrate the peels.

My question is…could I powder those dried peels and use as an additive in a soap?  I thought I'd try to find some apple-scented oil to use as well.

Thanks!

Joann

I've answered my own question…the peels aren't coming out cleanly, so getting nice, clean, unsticky peels aint' gonna happen!

But could you powder those peels up after they're dried?  and add them as an additive?  wink yes

I ground the leftover apples into applesauce, and the remaining peels had so much apple gunk in them that I don't think I'd get a totally dry result.  I might try to pick out the peels before making applesauce in the next batch.

I'll give that a try, because I like the idea so much.

Do you have an apple peeler?  I dry those peels to use in tea.  Now that you've posted this I might try and dry some to add to soap.  Love this group and all the fantastic ideas.

Hey Joann.

Read something awhile back about steam juicing the peels…bet you could steam juice them to get the remaining juice and then, as CindyP mentions, put whatever is remaining in the steamer into the dehydrator.  After dehydrating, you could pulverize it into powder (I use my blender) for an additive in your soap.

By the way, I run my steamed apples (skin minus the seeds/core) thru the meat grinder and it makes it so fine that you'd never know the skins were there.  If you are using a food mill it might just take a second run thru…not sure.
