These smell so good and keep for years.

Mix equal parts cinnamon and applesauce to form dough. Roll out on counter on which cinnamon has been sprinkled ( You may want to put wax paper over and under, but the cinnamon will help it not stick.) Cut out with cookie cutters. Make a hole at the top with straw or toothpick. Leave the toothpick or straw in while the "cookies" airdry (approx. 24 hours). We put cinnamon hearts in some of the cookies before drying. We used glitter and glue to decorate ours with- so pretty and they last for years.

I used the salt dough recipe because I knew my dog would be getting a hold of them and I thought the glue might hurt him.

Cinnamon Dough Ornament Recipe

Ingredients:
2 cups flour
1 cup salt
I added about 5 tsp cinnamon and some nutmeg
3/4 to 1 cup water

Directions:
1.Combine dry ingredients in a bowl
2.Stir in water gradually to make dough
Tip: If it sticks to your hands – add more flour, If it crumbles – add water
3.Knead for 5-10 minutes until smooth
4.Refrigerate for 30 minutes
5.Roll out dough to desired thickness can range from1/4 – 3/4 inch thick
Note: The thicker the longer it will take to bake.

Create:
Use cookie cutters to create teddy bears, gingerbread people, and holiday shapes. Use a straw to make a hole so you can hang the ornament.

Baking: - Check After :45 minutes – 1 hour
Temperature: 325 degrees
Time: 1 1/2 hours – varies based on thickness, bake till dry

Decorate: Let cool before you begin
Paint with acrylic paints
Glue on fun eyes, buttons, ribbon, or any fun accessory

Preservation: Making them last a long time
Coat with acrylic varnish when everything is dry, this is optional.

Don't forget to have extra cinnamon available to use as "flour" on your board when you roll them out.  My dough was pretty sticky after I added the glue.  They still smell great each time I walk by the tree.  Have fun.  My grandchildren spent the night last night and we have some projects planned for today.
