Reading Suzannes' post this morning for her Vanilla Body Spray it's prompted me to put this idea on.

If you use 'feminine talc' it's really quite expensive to buy, and Like Suzanne I read the ingredients and its mainly cornstarch and baking soda, so I have been making my own for years now with 1 cup of cornstarch to 1/3 cup baking soda and a few drops of lavender essential oil.  It works fine and costs barely anything to make.  I just put it in a ziplock bag.  I suppose any essential oil would be fine, but I use lavender as it has antiseptic qualities too.

If it's got tyres or testicles it's trouble.

There are so many reasons to make our own products such as this.  First, there is a huge monetary savings.  Perhaps that alone is enough to want to go the homemade route.

Secondly, it takes less time to make it than to shop for it, especially if you consider the time you have to work to pay for the product.  For us, it takes much less time to shop for base ingredients than to shop for all the end products.  There must be at least a bazillion thing I'd rather be doing than shopping!

Third, making things at home  you can eliminate all the ingredients you can't pronounce, the unnecessary dyes, scents or other ingredients to which you may be sensitive, or anything else you just don't want on/in you person.

Well, you get the idea!  There are a lot more, like eliminating packaging waste, animal testing, yada, yada.  But mainly it's CHEAP and EASY!!

I started making my own bath products quite a few years ago. I much prefer them and they cost so less in the long  run

Rose! What a fantastic idea! Thank you for sharing your recipe. I go through so much powder during the summer months and would rather use something without added chemicals.

How about storing the homespun powder in a parmesan cheese shaker jar?

I've been having a 'fiddle about' with my last batch and I've discovered it works just as well without quite so much bicarb and it feels smoother too, so I suggest using just under 1/4 cup to 1 cup cornstarch.

Excellent idea Staci Lynn about the parmesan cheese shaker, as I've not been able to find a talc container with a fully removeable yet – like the old fashioned tin ones.

If it's got tyres or testicles it's trouble.
