I am new here and have just posted on the welcome forum.
I am looking for prepackaged corn husks, non edible, for some wreaths I am going to make with my daughters.
I have called every craft store known to man in my area. Even the national ones. Nothing. Years ago, I used to buy them at these stores, no problem. Now they act like they don't know what I am asking.
People have suggested to me Mexican markets and farmers. We don't have any Mexican markets in this area and I live in corn country. But it is just too time consuming to gather them, only the outside husks are used for this wreath. Easier to buy in packages.
I am not an internet buyer very often. But it may come down to that.
Does anyone make crafts out of them? Where do you get your husks?
Thanks, Suzy

Suzy, you can usually find them at large farmers markets (not necessarily Mexican markets, just the usual farmers markets). Do you have any near you?

We also have them in our grocery stores in the Mexican aisle (by the tortillas, salsas)….but that could be because of alot of Spanish people living in our area, idk.

I live near a huge one. I guess I am getting lazy in my old age!! They do have garbage cans near the corn disploay where everyone shucks their ears before bagging them up.
I guess I don't like the time factor of drying and picking through to get the best ones. Inside husks really aren't usuable as they dry to practically strings. Outside 2 or 3 husks are the ones I like. But when you are looking at 5 or 6 people making wreaths, and each person using probably at least 100 or so, you can see why I just want the packaged ones.
I have considered doing what you suggest. I just thought I'd exhaust all options before I would take the truck and fill up the bed with husks!!
Thanks for your input. I just love this site. I am still finding my way around, but it's fun. I told my daughter who has a small farm about it. Hopefully she will join too!

Suzy, I got a huge bag of them last year from a farmers market. They weren't the husks from people throwing out husks from their corn. They were husks brought specifically to sell and they were already dried. They were really nice. I've used them for wreaths, angels, dolls, etc.

Suzy, when I needed them, I got bags of nice, dry corn husks at a floral supply outlet/company. It was a to-the-trade outlet, but during midday or later, mid week, they usually had time to help. You don't want to be there when florists descend to see which fresh flowers just came in. BTW they were also a great place to get bolts of ribbon.
