OfflineY'all come over, I have a pile of them on the back porch I am trying to get rid of. I used one on the chicken house as a window, and one I mounted on the front of the chicken house as a 'faux' window, with a window box underneath.
But I have plenty left, all rustic and paint-peely!
Mary — it doesn't have a box on it. I'm not that skilled with carpentry. LOL! It's just the window pane, minus the glass, and we hot-glued some branches to the backside. The earrings are all hook earrings, and I just hooked them onto the branches. The sticky-outy parts of the branches hold rings. I hooked necklaces onto some branches and put post earrings through the chain links, although I have thought about putting a little basket for post earrings, but I don't have very many of those. I also put a couple of antique cup-hooks on the bottom and sides for necklaces and bracelets.
We made a smaller one for my daughter using an old picture frame. She really likes it.
Sparrowgrass — I wish you lived closer! I would snatch them all up! I love the paint-peely look. My husband couldn't figure out why I didn't want to paint this thing. LOL!
Sonia — that sounds like a neat idea!
When I lived in NJ I would go to a monthly craft show & sale in a darling town called Rancocas Woods. A gal there would paint things on the windows and sell them for $80. The first one I bought was a Christmas scene starring her big hairy dog. Then I bought a second one, a summer scene of a white picket fence with all sorts of flowers tumbling around and through it. She even painted viney things on the wood frame. It's wonderful, and I've had these windows about a dozen years. If anyone is artistic at all, it's a great way to make money at craft fairs. Wish I was, cause we'll be trading out our 30-odd windows this year with energy efficient ones. I'm thinking greenhouse windows for these!
Just thought of another use. One of my hobbies is stained glass, and I took a class where we used new picture frames and did mosaics on them. I did a rooster. Just cut transparent colored glass into small bits and use Weldbond to glue them to the glass, then grout when the glue is dry. Then I glued small black and white tiles on the frame in a checkerboard pattern. Really came out cute. A person can get stained glass at Hobby Lobby, and people sell scraps on Ebay. A mosaic stained glass picture on an old window frame would be darling. Now I know what to do with our old windows!

OfflineWe have a few old windows with the cross pieces (lost the technical name in my fuzzy brain) still in them from our old barn. I plan to put a corkboard in one section, a picture frame in another, a mirror in another and maybe a chalk/white board in the last. I might hang a couple of old hooks on it and hang it near the door as a message/ key center.
Sparrowgrass, I may have to take you up on the offer of free windows!

OfflineThat is really cute!!! Lots of good ideas. Re the cold frame with old windows, here's how we made one with old windows here:
http://chickensintheroad.com/h…..old-frame/
I love the cold frame, I'm getting a cold frame this year..well I hope I do, I was promised one last year but he never got to it.
We will use newer windows for the cold frame, since we replaced all our windows this year, we use the ones who are only 30 yrs old, the real old original windows I will keep and use for crafts..just sitting here now and absorb everybodies idea..so keep them coming ;-)

OfflineMy grandfather used to use windows as a cold frame, too. He would plant the tomatoes on the south side of the house. Then, when it got cold outside, he would surround the plants with bales of hay. Then he would use an old window on top, kinda slanted to face the southern sun. Mom said they had fresh tomatoes until well into the new year–in IOWA!
