OfflineHave you thought about painting the tile? Just google "paint ceramic tile". I've seen handpainted tiles and they can be beautiful, also expensive. The sites I looked at said you can paint the whole tile or even do stencils on them. It looks a little labor intensive – sand, clean, prime, paint, seal – if you were doing a lot of them. Maybe just keep the yellow and paint the black tiles in a coordinating color or pattern. Some random stencils in your decorating theme (country, roosters, etc.). Hmmm, I'm wondering if you could apply a picture or cutout. The last step is applying a urethane sealer. Will have to go check this out.

OfflineWell, mountainwoman, right now I want to leave the tiles in-tact as they are and concentrate on the walls in the adjoining room, stairwell and the area above the cupboards instead.
I finally did find a paint chip that matches the yellow pretty closely – it is Benjamin Moore "wildflowers", chip #325.
I'm still leaning toward muted greens (Benjamin Moore "October Mist", chip number 1495 and the range that is on that particular card of tints from 1492 – 1498) but I really prefer it to be a warmer color and these are on the cool side.
I would use the dark reds as accent colors rather than the whole wall. As far as the "golden/brown/orangeish" range, I think the oak cabinets will be sufficient to bring that into the scheme of things.

OfflineHere's another fun color tool. You can put in colors on each part of the wall:

OfflineWow, you guys are awesome, and you've given me a lot of stuff to think about. I have 2 conflicting palletes I just love. Lots of bright colors with black or metallic accents and muted yellow, green, blue like the Valspar paint thing, that's what my bathroom is.
My problem isn't what i like, it's how to mix the two? The pastel shades relax me, and the bright shades just make me happy, so that's all good, but how to blend them so that you can go from one room to another without whiplash I haven't figured out yet.
At the moment, with so many boxes of books in the house from the shop, it's not really a problem. But my goal this year is to shed 10,060 pieces (I'm 100-150 short for the month of Jan., darn it!) and close the business as of 12/31/12.
Dreaming about what i'll do then is one of the things that keeps me motivated and plugging away at this huge job, so THANKS! I'll come back to this thread often I predict.
