Seems that the Jarden folks are sponsoring a National Can-It-Forward Day.  Who knew!  It's Saturday July 14, 2012 and is originating from the original home of the Ball brothers in Indiana.  But, there are many ways and lots of suggestions for how any of us can help them celebrate that day wherever we happen to reside.

Sounds like fun!  Or a good excuse to get together and have some fun with canning stuff that many of us would be doing anyway.  They have lots of ideas here:

Anyone think this might be fun?  With or without electrical power, it might just be a good excuse to gather with a few friends to sweat together!

Feel free to post ideas for how to do this and with whom you might here, and if we have some who actually DO Can-It-Forward, share with us how it went.

I think it'd be great! I just can't imagine getting together to do it in my tiny kitchen though.  I can only do very limited amounts of things and two people is nearly impossible for me.  I'd love to have a big ol' farm kitchen to work in.  *sigh*

In years past the Extention Service had community canning kitchens complete with large canners and Extention service  home demonstration agents to train and assist. Times change and these are now just part of our history.

Our Extension Office (Macomb County, MI)  has put together 3 classes for new canners this year.  It is better than nothing.  I just finished teaching 2 classes on dehydrating.  I had 90 come!  We were all surprised at the turn out.  A lot were asking about canning classes also so maybe we can revive it!
